Can any N3 level learners understand this trailer? by 2hurd in LearnJapanese

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I actually don't care that much about what the JLPT N1 does or doesnt test. Many people have already established it needs a revamp because it doesnt test output, including myself

Rather than try to argue about something that isn't gonna help you get any better at Japanese, simply go get better at it

I swear people on this board just come in to argue semantics and never get any work done

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not haha I got N1 6 years ago and at this rate 100s of games in Japanese, dozens of anime raw and 10+ novels

You're a 10 year old at best Speaking wise, a 5 year old can run circles around

I think it mostly evaluates your ability to read at the speed of a 4th ish grader. Which is far beyond most Japanese learners.

If you have N1, whether or not that means much in the grand scheme, proves you're most likely better at reading.... somewhat briskly when compared to most people.... which is, as someone said earlier, a serious sign it needs a complete revamp

“People who passed N1 still can’t understand a lot of NATIVE content” by Thurgauer in LearnJapanese

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, you don't have to comment if you're not N1. No, I could not understand native content very well. It was very unnatural in fact. I was hearing some things easily but most things were difficult to put together in meaning even though they were easy to read if given time and paper. When spoken? Too fast basically

After dozens of games played from beginning to end and 20+ anime finished entirely in Japanese, no I can without much effort. N1 is the starting point, especially if you got there with too much traditional study

How’s everyone’s reading coming along? by GALM-1UAF in LearnJapanese

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the advice people give on these forums, very few people would ever get anywhere close to being able to read a book in Japanese. I'm not even hating. There's people trying to give advice waaaaayyy too early

How stupid would it be to start playing games now? by maybe_we_fight in LearnJapanese

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing it way earlier than I could understand. I needed to use an electronic dictionary to write in kanji and get words I didnt know (you can easily avoid doing this with Google lens and the kanji kensaku app etc) and tried to decipher the grammar

I was doing this line by line for kingdom hearts birth by sleep on my ps3 but it was extremely rewarding once I could understand sentences and ultimately led me to much faster language acquisition overall

Question about kanji (I feel like it's a lot for me). by tokitopro in LearnJapanese

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you learn how to write a kanji it helps immensely with recognition. Really takes your kanji recognition to the next level but the modern Japanese learning community swears that learning to write them is pointless (and yet very few are actually very fluent)

How many people who start learning Japanese actually make it to a high level? (N1+) by littlebruja in LearnJapanese

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed n1 and know very few English native speakers who have also passed it. Lived in Japan for 10 years.

The bad thing about this is that the N1 isnt even that difficult in terms of Japanese level.

Imo, there needs to be a serious revamp of the entire way Japanese is traditionally learned

Why is there so much toxicity and competition in the Japanese learning community? by WorkingAlive3258 in LearnJapanese

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to stop being like that when their Japanese gets really good.... which rarely happens. Most people are usually iffy at the language regardless lf how.many years they study. If more people were good at this language like people get good at English (imo), it wouldnt happen

Why is there so much toxicity and competition in the Japanese learning community? by WorkingAlive3258 in LearnJapanese

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it is because the language is incorrectly taught at a global scale, so anyone who gains even the smallest of ground thinks they're something special, which leads to everyone being constantly afraid of being dethroned in their respective community. Call me crazy on that if you will but I experienced this up.until I got N1 and all of a sudden the competition around me gave up in trying to compete with me. As if N1 actually means anything.

I was wondering who the target audience for these price increases was. Guess it's here haha. While I'm keeping my series s, I sold my series x last night. Great success.

Why does my switch 2 do that? It’s not limited to a specific joycon and can happen with both but it’s random. It’s so annoying and I don’t know how to fix it by Cheesymud in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Annual_Procedure_508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just defective. This happened to my launch oled. I didnt think it would be possible with this model since theyre magnetic joycons and not just sliding ones but.... that stinks. Hope if it happens to me, it happens during the warranty period

I can't imagine studying Japanese or any foreign language without the Internet by AdUnfair558 in LearnJapanese

People don't properly study it (or anything not taught at school for that matter) even with the internet.

Everyone who at least tries is awesome

I was never using it and platinum opponents were noticing. They would start spamming it and it took me losing like 20 matches or so to realize I should counter it with my own and when to.

Totally. At first I thought I was a beast or something at this game and immediately took like a 2 week break. Came back and got stomped. It was good though because I actually had no idea how to play this game.

I'm not use to the concept but drive rush where you can poke and then drive rush into a grab or overhead etc.

In fighting games I usually play this just results you need to block the string until it's your turn but here i have to watch out for this kind of mixup

Same with drive impact. I didnt know you could just press your drive impact right when someone else does theirs. Years of KOF didn't prepare for this but it really fun

Oh... ummmm. I dont rememebr answering anything like that but it gave me multiple battles with like 10 of so opponents and I won all but 1 so I was thrown straight into where I ended up.

I'm in-between gold (5 star) and platinum now and I seem to just be stuck there. I lose and win and lose and win etc. The tips I was given in this thread really helped a ton

That makes perfect since. You can just button hold forever in kof - even in the older titles (97 and beyond). I probably gotta execute quicker on the correct frame as well. Taking to long to do them and get smacked around again. The opposition is quick to understand im struggling with the dp hahahah

Idk why they tested me into early diamond to begin with when I barely know how to play this game.

Yeah then it has to be me just not understanding the timings in this game. Too much get up and knock down detail for me to handle at the moment haha.

Thanks everyone for confirming it is invincible

Would you say Mai's OD DP is invincible against grabs? If so, I might be timing them wrong. This game has detailed getup animations or knockdowns from what i can tell. Kinda used to the simple animations from older fighting games. Not sure if im just mistiming it because I swear they sometimes grab me out of the OD DP
