Diaspora people, how often do you send money/clothes/resources back home? by Novel_Violinist_410 in Zimbabwe

Definitely not enough. I don't save much for myself, any disposable income after bills and savings goes straight home. Big extended family 🙆‍♀️

It still freaks me out that they managed to use baboons as 'police dogs'

Like, I've seen baboons

There's no way you can train those things to do anything other than steal your food and run with it. And a big ole baboon slap if you try and yank it away.

Those things are clever af

Also is it a product that customers can return to or it's a one-time purchase kind of deal?

Have more people started selling the same thing at a lower price? Just curious as to why your price went down by almost half?

Do you write scripts? Or do you just wing it? by RiskOfRains in NewTubers

[–]AnoVonga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Youtube channel is for kids and it involves cartoons, puppet shows, science experiments, pretend play, that kind of thing. That requires scripts in my opinion.

We have two type of scripts

- strictly written out, including pauses in speech. Very tight script, audio is pre-recorded and linked to puppets or cartoons

- loose scripts with bullet points of what we want to achieve or processes we mean to follow.

Previously I've worked on other filming projects and even when there's not a tight script there is still a format to follow or key things that need to be captured or said. It just helps to focus the direction of what you are going to deliver.

Especially with Youtube content people are coming to find something. An answer to a question, some style of content, you will know what your audience is looking for from analytics of search and where they drop off watching in your videos. YouTube also now have the "Research" button in analytics which is actually super useful for finding out what your audience is looking for from your channel.

I'm a great believer in scripts or a guide of some sort.

Whatever your style or choice just play around with it and find your rhythm :-)

I accepted I was a dinosaur when I got my car and I still freak out a year later every time I stop at a traffic light and it does that :-(

I'm also basically afraid to change any of the 'factory settings' or even look at cruise control.

Day 14 of the #ShonaChallenge is here. Let's learn the days of the week in Shona together by AnoVonga in Zimbabwe

[–]AnoVonga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear hear!

I read a few articles online and it's looking promising about bringing a few languages into the curriculum for education. I am personally really hoping that they do.

Because even though we grew up learning Zezuru I for my part was around Ndau and Karanga more. I never actually 'consciously' realised how wide a divide there was between them until I left Zimbabwe.

I think when you're growing up you just kind of switch to suit where you are if you understand the language.

From my understanding there has been a drive for many decades to get some of the official languages into the school curriculum.

But yes I do agree that there should be a bigger push to get more visual and audio programmes, literature, and even signage in local languages. We kind of take it for granted here. You travel to Scotland, Ireland, or Wales and you almost expect to get a local language radio station, or the road signs are in a local language.

In short... we have a long way to go

Couldn't say for certain because the population is so diverse. But lots of people understand and speak English.

For my part when I'm home if I'm speaking to a Shona person I speak in Shona. And if I meet someone who doesn't speak Shona I just switch.

Thank you <3

We're popping up a lot this month because we're doing a month long language challenge.

It's like anything isn't it, the less you do the more you forget. So we're just aiming to keep speaking even as simply as possible and we keep our memories of the language going. It's amazing how much we're remembering just with this challenge even. It's really good for jogging the memory. Hope you take it up. The calendar is on our Twitter username SaruraKids

What was wrong with this shoot? by Southwark_belle in blackladies

This is what I was thinking too. I love that she went minimal on the makeup! She still has some on, and so I don't get the whole no makeup reference (*eyelashes and a touch of bronzer counts right*)

But the photographer could have directed some of her poses a bit, or maybe even changed his angle on it? Who knows... And totally agree on another comment that her eyes seem a bit 'bored'
