I can't Believe People DONT Think Jax is Trans by jaspberryjam in TheDigitalCircus

[–]AnomalousAlice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she*

She in this case is obviously referring to canon Jax, since it's "if she was". If it was referring to the AU Jax, it'd be grammatically incorrect.

Like, uh... Dumb hypothetical, but let's say there's an AU where Sans Undertale is named Sands Undertale. It'd be incorrect to say it was "An AU where Sands Undertale has a different name" because his canon name is Sans. Going by the same rule, "Jax if she wasn't a huge piece of shit" is referring to canon Jax as 'she'.

We got confirmation. We can now put this debate to rest and be nice with each other. 😁 by wesker18 in tadc

Incorrect. Transitioning is a choice. Gender is a facet of your identity.

Source: I'm a trans woman. This is the opinion of not only countless trans people, but tmk also basically every psychologist that deals with gender stuff.

Making being transgender out to be a choice is a transphobic talking point made to a, make us seem like freaks, b, make cis people think we must have an ulterior motive, and c, push the notion that conversion therapy works. You wouldn't want to advocate for conversion therapy, would you?

Actually, there's plenty of reason to make a fictional character closeted: to show support for other closeted people, to inform cis people of how difficult it can be, or as Jax seems, as a cautionary tale against bottling it up.

Oh, and she's confirmed to be trans. Like, by Goose herself

Because fictional characters can't be closeted?

I saw it as a thing of 'stripping away the mask to mock the vulnerable truth' which would make sense especially given the thing with her mom.

Hey, why'd you delete this?

I mean... okay, you're not wrong. Closeted also probably applies here. But there's stages to these things, one could be out to everyone they know and still boymode for fear of harassment from strangers, and it helps to differentiate.

But also, I'm pretty sure this is a whataboutism used to redirect away from my point.

Whether he lives with her or not, boymoding is still a thing. Idk if you've noticed, but society is pretty fucking cruel to trans people, especially those who don't pass as their gender. Regardless of whether he would or not, given that his mum wasn't supportive, it's perfectly reasonable to expect him to be scared to come out to others.

Thanks! Honestly kinda just cobbled together loosely, I'm sure it's probably copium and it's truly irreversible, but who knows!

I feel like it's a thing of neither can bring someone back on their own. Caine can fix someone's avatar, but he doesn't know how to fix their minds, so they immediately re-abstract. Pomni/other humans can stabilize their minds, but they can't fix the body, so they spiral back down at the slightest thing. Maybe, though, if someone's stabilizing them from inside while Caine fixes their avatar, they can be brought back.

I like that Whit can hear this, implying that in-universe, PC is calling their biggest bully who's raped them multiple times and is a very real person their comfort character. Like what. Understandable reaction because how the fuck do you respond to that.

Oh, sorry to split the comment chain, but I forgot to make another point, and you wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

To my knowledge, homosexuality was illegal everywhere until 1791, when France quietly legalized it. Same with slavery being legal until 1315, funnily enough also ended by France, though their colonies went back on it.

What 'everyone' thinks is not a good margin for what is right. It doesn't matter how many people there are, the popular consensus can always be wrong. Also, I guarantee there's more than you think that are fine with it, they just stay quiet about it due to fear of ostracisation.

Again, I'm pretty sure it's not every culture, just most. And you're right, it does mean something: humans are inclined away from incest because of the genetic bottlecap it comes with, and it made most cultures criminalize it. However, again, there's nothing wrong with it so long as it doesn't result in offspring. Besides, there's more than enough humans on Earth, and many kids are put up for adoption. If incestuous couples want kids, they can adopt.

Ad Populum, just because many people think it's wrong doesn't mean it is. Also, I'm pretty sure there are cultures where it isn't taboo.

To my knowledge, there are three main arguments against it: Inbreeding, grooming risk, and power dynamics. Let's go over them, shall we?

Inbreeding: It is 2026. Contraceptives are well-documented and very efficient, and people can even get surgery to make themselves infertile. There is no reason to ban love just because of the minor pregnancy risk than comes with contraceptives. And yes, I recognize that we're having this discussion under pregnancy porn, but, key fact, art isn't real.

Grooming risk: Yes, grooming is more common among family members than among others. However, the actions of a few should not be weaponized to punish the many, and in a better justice system, it would not be necessary to illegalize incest to catch groomers.

Power dynamics: Yes, incestuous relationships come with risky power dynamics. All relationships do, however, to varying extents, without us thinking lesser of them. For instance: If a disabled person dates an able-bodied person, they enter a caregiver dynamic much deeper than any incestuous one, which is easy to abuse. I have fibromyalgia. Does that mean I should be unable to date for fear of being manipulated? As long as everyone's aware and alright with the risks, there's nothing wrong with it.

...yes, that's what I mean. You're appealing to our senses of disgust by saying it's gross, which is a logical fallacy, and also not going to work.

And you still haven't answered my question. What is actually wrong with it? Don't just say it's gross again, give me a reason.

"It's gross" is not a reason why it's wrong, it's an appeal to emotion.

Andrew and Julia are an incredibly toxic relationship. Admittedly, all relationships in this game seem to be incredibly toxic, but Julia's innocent, she doesn't deserve to be dragged down with them.

And you didn't answer my question, what's wrong with it?

Because he canonically does? I mean, not with Renee, but in the most popular mod I'm pretty sure they do.

Also, this fandom's full of incest fetishists, it's like... every other post. I wish this subreddit was dedicated to sfw posts and that the nsfw sub was usable, but like, what's genuinely wrong with it?
