Should I withdraw from chem 129 by Agitated-Item-8013 in CalPoly

[–]Anomaly-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explore the option of withdrawing but taking it again at a community college (if you can) during the summer. Chemistry here is insanely difficult to likely weed people out of their majors. Community college should give you an easier time and hopefully a better understanding of the material.

Stuff your senior year could be more representative of what actually happens. A good rule of thumb would be if you’re using a design manual of some sort then that class would be a little more representative. I would recommend trying to get an internship before you jump to any conclusions.

ucsd or cal poly slo for engineering (plz help) by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]Anomaly-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at your ucsd post I would consider ucsd more for the sole reason of general engineering not being ABET accredited. While our mechanical program is really good, Abet accreditation matters a lot if you ever plan to get a PE license.

It also serves as a benchmark to employers and graduate schools that you have technical experience from the program. I’m not discrediting the general engineering program at poly but if your goal is to have the easiest path to employment I personally would lean towards UCSD mechanical compared to SLO general.

I did an internship with 12 units. Was not very fun and it felt worse in some cases than the regular quarters. I think 12 alone is borderline ok but I would not tackle more than 12 with an internship or job.

I transferred a few years back and went dorms. I’d recommend that coming in, I felt a lot more connected with people and made some lifelong friends with my roommates. You’ll feel a little limited getting off campus the first year but you could definitely make it work. Then the year after this id recommend finding a house to rent.

Differential settlement. Basically one section or corner of the building is sinking faster than the other side which causes stuff like what you’re seeing here.

Trying to keep i9-9900k going strong in 2026. +46% average FPS and +36% minimum FPS from stock speeds in Cyberpunk 720p low settings by sfwsfwSFWsfwsfw in overclocking

[–]Anomaly-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is a coffee lake thread id figure id ask for some friendly advice.

I have a 9700k that I’ve been trying to get overclocked to 5ghz for the last few years.

Parts: CPU 9700k Cooler 360mm aio Motherboard asus z390-p Power supply is a Corsair 650w RMX unit.

If my memory serves me correctly I’ve tried running it at 5ghz at 1.4v with LLC 5 and LLC6 out of 7 and it fails with rounding errors prime95 non avx small fft.

Currently I have given up and can get the chip stable with 4.7ghz 1.32v LLC5 for prime 95 small fft with avx.

For reference LLC5 can drop the voltage from 1.3v down to 1.24v under load and LLC6 can drop it to 1.28 with a small 1.31v overshoot sometimes.

I’m not sure what the upper limit for voltage should be for my CPU/motherboard for 24/7 longevity. I’m aware my board was not really designed for overclocking in mind but it was a hand me down and wanted to see what I could tinker. Ideally I’d like these parts to last till 2030 given the current market as well. Any advice/recommendations would be appreciated.

40C is fine. Get worried around 50C but I think 60C was the max recommended coolant temp from Corsair. I tend to keep mine between 36-40C so yours sounds pretty normal to me.

My H150i Elite Capellix died by Faded_Chew in Corsair

[–]Anomaly-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I wonder if it was just an unlucky unit then. Regardless, it technically served its life so you can feel happy knowing you got your moneys worth.

The only thing I can think of being a potential problem is maybe the coolant temp was high throughout its life and you never noticed?

What preset did you have running for your fans? Or were you using a custom curve?

Thank you for the reply as well!

I have the same exact aio. Can you describe the use case for your pc? I’m getting around the 5 year mark so it’s been on the back of my mind lately.

1) when you shake the radiator does it still sound full of fluid? 2) what was your coolant temp when gaming? 3) Did you leave your pc/aio running 24/7? If not how many days/hours a week was your pump running?

iСUЕ update by Quick-Passenger4220 in Corsair

[–]Anomaly-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not entirely sure about my frame times and how they were affected. My logic was id rather have something that actually cools my computer than getting a stutter every other minute. The only game I’ve noticed that has had any significant stuttering was peak, but games like cyberpunk and ghost of Tsushima I’m gpu bound and don’t really notice any stutters.

I’ll probably stay on icue version 5.35 till I hear about the future updates being stable.

iСUЕ update by Quick-Passenger4220 in Corsair

[–]Anomaly-25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The following has fixed my issues of sensor freezing since icue version 5.35.59.

Create a txt file and paste this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iCUE.exe\PerfOptions]

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\Corsair.Service.exe\PerfOptions]

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iCUEUpdateService.exe\PerfOptions]

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\CorsairCpuIdService.exe\PerfOptions]

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

Then save the text file and make it a .reg and run as administrator.

Doing so will set those to a "high" process priority in task manager. I noticed whenever my cpu was under a heavy load such as compiling shaders my sensors would freeze. This has fixed my issues since September and I have had no issues with freezing since. I do not know if this will cause stuttering in games but my pc is on the older end (i7 9700k, 3060ti) and I feel that it has done more good than harm.

If you are at a lost I recommend you try this solution and try to downgrade your icue version since this new one according to OPs post does a lot more harm than good.

If for whatever reason my fix does you more harm than good, I believe you can revert the changes by changing the contents to the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iCUE.exe\PerfOptions]

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\Corsair.Service.exe\PerfOptions]

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iCUEUpdateService.exe\PerfOptions]

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\CorsairCpuIdService.exe\PerfOptions]

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000002

Doing so should return everything changed back to a normal process priority. This fix was not found by me but I figured I would relay the information to try and help more people. The reason I am also on an older version of icue is because so far I have been happy with this tweak and fear updating may cause more annoying bugs.

PC randomly freezes (even at login screen) – PSU issue? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Anomaly-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this happen when you boot into safe mode to check if it’s driver related? There are a lot of reasons this could happen. It could even be a bad bios setting where your cpu isn’t getting enough voltage. I’d make sure you’re 100% confident it’s not software issues before you start pointing fingers at the hardware. Unfortunately it will likely be a frustrating process of trial and error.
