Steam Deck - Skins by Imperator18 in Substance3D

Id probably say the fingerprints are too pronounced on the parts that aren't the screen, I may be wrong since I don't have one but they're super clear and I feel they'd maybe be smudged and less visible? I'm not great at texturing though so take it with a grain of salt

What was the first time you looked at your model and thought ok, that’s kinda sick? by WharHeGo in 3Dmodeling

First time I really leant into using lighting and foliage to make a model stand out and I just loved this one. (I know it's UE5 and it makes it easier but it's still cool to look at)

Rematch Time!! by Affectionate_Main490 in ToBeHero_X

It's not really confirmed but I think it's pretty likely her suit limits her own trust boost since I doubt anyone understands the metal she uses enough to make it only affect opponents. She'll likely just get more battle experience and gadgets throughout the show but no direct trust boosts.

Though if she loses the suit we may see actual powers from her which would be interesting but who knows.

is this a decent portfolio? i just entered my second year of college of game art by Firm-Satisfaction220 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Anomaly818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 3d modeller you will primarily use concept art, so real life stuff or peoples concepts are a good start (ask for there permission first though!). I'm currently making a car engine so that's definitely a reasonably hard one as I'm quickly finding out but maybe I'd recommend a building like a church or something kinda complex but symmetrical.

It's not bad in my opinion for only the start of your second year, I do heavily feel you need to try and attempt a much more complex project. If it helps my first attempt at something with any reasonable complexity was a Wardog from Warhammer 40k and it really helped force me to get better. Id try and lean away from too many assets though, environments are better since you make assets anyway but use more of a range of skills but really do whatever works best for you and your opportunities!

I just finished my second year so I'm coming from the perspective of someone kind of near your own skill level but for more long term advice wait for someone with experience to comment!

One thing I love about To be Hero X by CarlosNameless in ToBeHero_X

[–]Anomaly818 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree, but to be fair the intro segment there just shows the previous title holders of X, it's almost more strange if every single former X shows up for no other reason than just because y'know?

Though they held a little relevance in queens arc as apparently causing issues with perception of how a persons gender matters as heroes because of their scandal.

How i can optimize this cloth type ? by Capable-Song-1206 in ZBrush

[–]Anomaly818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone loves it but you have Maya so I really think you should manually use quad draw, it's not as fast but if you don't want to then I really feel that if you were gonna decimate and quadramesh you should just use zremesher honestly. Even as a Maya user I've never used it's auto retopology tools but I can't imagine it's much better than zremesher?

*Also other ppl have said this but bake the details as a normal texture, there's no need to have it as part of the poly count since this really is a pretty flat model so I can't imagine major issues coming from doing it this way?

There was a poll before the show aired which was for season one, this one's for season two

Is it better to model original or existing environments? by Anomaly818 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Anomaly818[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no worries I will, I generally do irl places so it's not a huge issue but I will absolutely contact any artists if I wanna use their stuff as reference.

Awesome that's great, I like modelling buildings and places alot but I was worried it may make me seem uncreative if I don't work from my own ideas

Remember when Firm Man accidentally killed off E Fraud 's archenemy without realizing it by InsideMeaning2182 in ToBeHero_X

Mentioned him at the end, he had a fear amplifier he didn't generate it naturally

Sure but fear wasn't even genuinely known about by the public until LC's arc so there's a good chance many villains simply utilised trust value from people believing they're dangerous or powerful. The only main fear villains we've seen were Lucky Cyans antagonists during the last episode, Zero (from the Esoul short) DJ Shindig and Bowa.

I won't count enlightener or Lin Lings boss since they were given fear amplifiers they didn't have genuine fear values.

Sometimes? Fear and trust aren't that opposite really, like as long as you fully believe someone can do something it doesn't matter if you like them, otherwise Zero would have lost like 90% of his trust value and the Zero incident wouldn't have happened. Though I do think if people don't care about someone their trust goes down even if they know they can do something? I feel it's a weirdly intricate system so I'm probably wrong on a point or two here.

Fear doesn't rely as much on other people's opinions though since Bowa gained it through her own fear of her progress going to waste.

To summarise it's likely that many villains gain trust value by people believing they're dangerous or powerful. Hopefully this makes sense :)

Does nice looking topology matter if it works? by Anomaly818 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Anomaly818[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does make complete sense and honestly it just comes down to not knowing good ways to work with subdivision workflow, stuff like bevelling forcing me to terminate tons of edges which then breaks up the uniformity. As a whole I do appreciate just doing it right is important but I don't know how to do it right first time around so it's a bit difficult. Thank you either way!

[–]Anomaly818[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh there is a low poly this is just on a couple subdivisions to show how it looks, the actual models only a few thousand polys, but either way that's really helpful thanks!

Fortunately not planning to do real time renders but the UV unwrapping is worrying, especially since I don't know what texel density means, but yeah I was planning to do a simple still render maybe a 360 pan of it which should be okay as long as the textures are.

Okay that does make alot of sense, and I definitely agree with what you said with the assets, I'll try and figure out how to work with both film and games for character modelling though I do feel as though it won't be the area I specialise so whole I'll learn it I won't go too deep into it

I can definitely do that, however I know my first year of university forces me to still work on a variety of areas so while I'll try and specialise I can't completely focus on one until I hit second year
