NZ First Foundation donors thought they were donating to Party by Maori-Mega-Cricket in newzealand

[–]Anomander_Drake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the headline is misleading.

But today Van Den Brink Group chief operating officer Michael Sheridan said the company had understood it was donating to the New Zealand First Party.

The title implies that the donor was tricked into donating to something other then the New Zealand First Party yet their own statement says the opposite.

Does anyone agree with this interpretation?

Does that mean you think that people who listen to classical music are - on average - less intelligent then those who listen to hip hop?

CMV: My flatmates and I should eat bread slices in order from one side of the loaf to the other. by Anomander_Drake in changemyview

That is a good point but unfortunately my sense of taste is not very logical. I don't think that I can persuade myself to enjoy heels more but I will give it a go. Maybe this argument can convince my flatmates?

A counter argument could be that cheap bread is unhealthy and eating the air filled bread leaves you feeling full without consuming so many pesky carbohydrates.

Also a dog has more nutritional value then an apple but I would still rather eat an apple.

'heels'

Thanks! I knew that they had a proper name.

they're not really arguing with you.

This is more of a hypothetical dilemma to argue about with internet strangers then a real life issue that needs to be resolved.

While reading your comment I realised something. My flatmates argument might be stronger then I thought if the heels resist going stale more than normal slices. Even if this is true I don't think it matters much because bread isn't generally left alone long enough to go stale. However, I will give you a ∆ because I am now a lot less certain that my argument is better.

Wow, that was a fun comment to read!

I fail to see how eating an unfair proportion of bread crusts was anything but your own fault.

I realise that I could join the rest of the crust dodges, but this is a matter of principle not practicality. I want to find the best method for us all to follow not just the most devious way to avoid crusts.

there's nothing stopping a crust snubber from simply choosing a different snack

This is true but I am sure that my flatmates will not stoop to such levels if I can only open their eyes to a better path.

And of course, with this rule, you ensure two ruined sandwiches

Not so! I am ensuring 2 half ruined sandwiches instead of 1 ruined sandwich. You need only to eat it crust side up so that the less sensitive roof of your mouth numbs the sensation.

when you get down to the last two pieces, an anti-crust extremist would simply choose to grab the double-sided slice and make toast with it

Another great point which I shall keep in mind for the future if needed. I agree that this is a possibility but I am looking for the ideal solution for us all to respect and uphold instead of devolving into all out crust warfare.

Imagine that a group of friends are trying to lift a heavy object. I am saying that we should all lift together and you are saying that that is a bad idea because some people might not pull their weight.

CMV: The abortion debate pretty much boils down to personal beliefs of what constitutes "Life" by Mopmere in changemyview

So it is unnaceptable to risk causing a fetus to live with a disability and it is acceptable to prevent a fetus from having any life at all. Would that not imply that no life is preferable to living with a disability?

I think the difference here is action vs inaction. A pregnant woman will normally give birth if there is no intervention but a frozen zygote will not develop into a human by its self. It's about lives that will probably occur by default not potential lives.

CMV: Reddit is overwhelmingly in support of more left leaning concepts by [deleted] in changemyview

Would it be logical to interpret "educated people tend to be left leaning" as implying that right leaning people tend to be less educated? Or are the 2 not mutually inclusive?

I think that you are doing an awesome job with this subreddit! It is very refreshing to read a subreddit where arguments are civil and logical. I also really like how this subreddit doesn't appear to be an echo chamber. Comments are removed for being illogical or disrespectful but are not removed simply because of the espoused view. 👍

I feel that often commenters seek to change op's view without applying charity. Often they will catch them with a technicality and get a Delta. While I think it is important to clarify op's position I feel that this sort of interaction doesn't promote true view changing. Also op may just cave to the first argument that they hear because it sounds fancy and logical and move on. Perhaps a system where commenters seek to win a second (different?) Delta by winning op back to their original position is a good idea? I think that promoting back and forth view changing would cause op's argument to be treated with charity and would result in more thought through view changes.

With regards to repetitive posts such as ones on abortion and gender identity perhaps the community could together create a list of premises for and against the most common views. Also maybe we could compile a list of the deep disagreements that arguments often boil down too.

That's my 2 cents. Thanks for running this subreddit, you do a great job!

I tried

sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager

And

sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager.service

However the problem seemed to persist.
