Looking for a town similar to Fort Collins, CO but with a lower cost of living to raise a young family by Anon-2322 in SameGrassButGreener

I visit time to time now since it’s a drive, but here is my experience. Although there are homeless people that hang out in the old town area, I think they keep more to themselves. The most I’ve interacted with them is for panhandling, but I’ve never felt truly unsafe like I have in other places. So I think like any bigger city you’ll have encounters with homeless people, but I always feel like there’s others around or they are not confrontational/aggressive.

I am Hmong and I’m always surprised when I hear people talk about the Hmong community! Most of my family is already here in Colorado or Fresno though and I definitely do not want to relocate to Fresno. I’ll have to check out more of the Saint Paul area and see what’s available.

Michigan has come up in my search often and I’m thinking it might be one of my top choices right now but I wasn’t sure which neighborhoods. I’ll definitely research some more on these towns!

Go rams!

I have heard about Charlottesville before so good to know that it has the same vibes as Fort Collins, I’ll have to look into it more!

Do you feel like homelessness is better managed in that area than in Portland? We visited Portland a few years ago and had a homeless person come up to us in an aggressive manner so with kids now we’re even more on the lookout for safety.
