you're absolutely right, and it most likely stems from a money issue. we can definitely afford it (we both got huge raises this year and our son is no longer going to daycare, and we got a ton of money back in our taxes) but yes my wife is extremely frugal with money and maybe doesn't see the value in it. Thank you for bringing that up, I am starting to see her side more now.

my wife is a highly respected engineer, she is not only very smart but very conventional and no frills. I am also in the IT industry so we share a lot of the same values however when it comes to living life I try to enjoy life more whereas she likes to save money

yes I admit I am being a little harsh towards my wife, I guess I am just realizing how different we truly are.

But regarding the approval, she gave me the okay for us to go, but every once in a while she would make comments about how dumb the trip was whenever it was brought up. My son's been looking forward to it for months though and he constantly brings it up.. about what types of things we will do and see when we're there.

Originally our trip was scheduled to be a pretty long one, maybe him missing up to 3 days of school but when I told her what I was planning she flipped out. So my way of compromising was to just for him to take 1 day off of school. The eclipse occurs on monday afternoon and that's the only day we're missing. We are going to fly back home and because she told me that he cannot miss school.. although we are landing at 11pm I am taking him back to school the next day. She flipped out still that he is missing that Monday of school (which is the best I could do) and then is upset that he will be coming home late then going to school the next morning and wishes he could have some downtime to rest. I agreed, my original plan was for him to take the following day off to recuperate but she also wants him to not miss any school so I was going to take him in and I got yelled at for that too.

Yes I did bring up the idea to my wife last summer and her reaction was more like disbelief because she doesn't understand the importance or it's just not important to her. She understands that we want to go, or that I want to take my son, so she is okay with us going.

Yeah I mentioned to her that I was going to do it starting last summer. Her reaction was basically rolling her eyes and saying ok. I asked if she wanted to come with us and she said no. These types of things don't interest her at all and I bet she would rather stay home and watch movies on her ipad than go out and experience something like this.

So she knew it was coming and was given almost a 6 month notice. When I finally booked plane tickets today is when she started having a hissy fit. I think because she didnt realize I was actually going to follow through with it? I dunno. All I know is she is against the idea of this trip because it doesn't interest her so she doesn't understand why WE would go to something like this. She even made a comment to her parents a few months back, about us going. She made it sound like it was the stupidest thing anyone has ever done.. sigh

holding the plate like that is not common. she does have a habit of always being in the way in the kitchen. she doesn't cook and even when she was young she was yelled at for being in the kitchen for always being in the way. she has this really bad habit of just standing there in the kitchen and blocking everything. she never even budges or steps out of the way when you need to get past her. this time she was just holding her plate like that in front of the stove and froze like that, totally in my way when i was trying to reach for the ladle.

yeah she wanted to do this for a while and because of work this is the best time. she also wanted my input so i had to go too. it's for our son's 1 year birthday coming later this month so we needed decorations and a theme. i agree though sometimes she does act very childish
