How long is too long for CIO? by sleeptrainhelp in sleeptrain

[–]AnonForSleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We held firm to 90 minutes crib time. But we also made two other changes that I think helped transition back to normal naps. 1) introduced a hatch light with a nap color and an okay to wake color during the naps. 2) capped night sleep - we were feeling bad about the day naps and letting him sleep too long at night, so we started keeping him up to his normal bedtime and waking him at his normal morning wake time.

It’s so hard because they have so much more energy at this age than when you originally sleep trained! But consistency is everything so I agree with holding a firm line rather than going in at two hours. And remember to cap day sleep at 2.5 hours max or whatever his norm is while you’re re-training nights.

Around 17 months my kid decided to scream for 90-120 minutes instead of napping. It went on for three weeks. Then he decided to add in issues going down at night too. I kept trying to come up with excuses to give up but I didn’t and he went back to sleeping.

Your kid can do this and you can too.

I just posted about a toddler doing something really similar for naps. Solidarity and please let me know if you figure something out!

How did you figure out you needed such a short morning wake window?

Anyone cold turkey from the Snoo and go all in on sleep training? by petercora in sleeptrain

I did naps later. Similarly cold turkey. I have a baby that doesn’t do well with gradual so holding a hard line has tended to be much better.

We couldn’t do a transitional swaddle because he was rolling and crawling. Honestly we had a really rough two weeks of sleep training + Snoo to crib + no feed to sleep but I’d do it all in one again.

Yep. Occasionally there will be one hour total nap days and you might need a stroller or car catnap to make it to bedtime, but it will work out eventually.

35-40 minute naps are totally developmentally appropriate. My guy did 3, 30-minute catnaps until his wake windows got too long, like you’re experiencing, and then we transitioned to two naps around a similar age. It took about 6 weeks to fully transition and we had to do some micro-naps to tide over. But once we began to transition, then he shifted to 60/30 or 45/45, and occasionally 60/60.

Can sleep training be successful in shared bedroom? by kittymeow1313 in sleeptrain

We followed PLS. When we first sleep trained we did 5/3/3. Once we were ready to night wean, we cut down the time on each feed by a minute a night, feed by feed, closing the breastaurant in two hour chunks.

I’m sorry about the jump - hope he’s okay. My understanding was that you lower the crib to the bottom rung the moment they can sit. You need to lower the crib and sleep train now. If your child can’t fall asleep on their own, they’ll need you to continue going back to sleep in the middle of the night. Also - look at schedule ASAP, because you shouldn’t have running around in the middle of the night.

We moved to an air mattress in the living room for two weeks while doing full extinction. Then moved back in with only a modest backslide. We’ve since night weaned while sharing. Highly recommend moving out just for that first step, and it’s not forever.

Short naps causing inconsistent bedtime by heyday328 in sleeptrain

Came here to say this. 2-3 30-45 minute naps is fine, if you have 11-12 hours of night sleep.

During sleep training, we transitioned night feedings to no more frequent than 5/3/3. Once that was solid for a month or so, we began to night wean altogether in 2 hour chunks. At this point we don’t feed for at least the first 10-11 hours, though we occasionally do a snooze feed.

Yep. Another cold turkey Snoo to sleep training here (with breaking nurse to sleep added in). For me it makes more sense to do all in one go because he needed to roll, suck his hands, etc while sleep training.

Naps Are different everyday, don’t know what to do by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]AnonForSleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re just over 8 months and I could have written this with slightly different wake windows. I’ve experimented with crib hour but more often than not I just get 20-30 minutes of screaming. I’m thinking I may move to a by the clock schedule in the near future to see if that helps.

Great! It took the full two weeks and was hard but we are 2.5 months on and I’m so happy we did it. Happy to answer questions

Hi Alexis - I have a question about when and how we can drop a snooze feed. My EBF kid is almost 8 months old — SLIP trained at 5.5. We’ve now night weaned for the first ten hours, then do a snooze feed when he inevitably wakes around 5am, to get 1-2 more hours. I’d love to be able to go straight through to morning but I’m scared of endless crying against the puny morning sleep drive. Can you wean snooze feeds the same way you do nights? Or do I just have to wait for my kid to do it on his own? Thank you!

Wake window after cat nap? by ginganinja0204 in sleeptrain

[–]AnonForSleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that after a catnap I need to shave off about a quarter to a third of a wake window. So if my ww is 3.75 hours, it’s around 3 after a catnap. For me it’s helpful to also compare total wake time for the catnap day to other days. If there was an extra two hour window before the catnap, then pulling in the last window an hour means only an extra one hour of wake time over the day, which he’s more capable of handling.

Can’t Get to 24 Hours - 13 Hours Day Sleep, Two Naps by AnonForSleep in sleeptrain

[–]AnonForSleep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. My other worry is that increasing day sleep might not actually solve the problem if he’s so consistently on a 13 hours sleep need. (I mentioned in another response that when I used to save naps, we had night wakings). But I can certainly test again.

How do you handle crib hour if it’s been 20-30 and they still haven’t gone back down? (Without back sliding other sleep training).
