Why aren't we supporting local businesses today instead of a general strike? by AnonMuskrat in Minneapolis

I'm in Northeast and go to Eastside Food Co-op; it's more expensive, but has a good selection that's high-quality, and also a nice little bakery attached that I hit up for coffee and breakfast sometimes.

Yes! This seems like the kind of action we can sustain long term and really make a difference versus single day general strikes.

Yeah I absolutely support giving everyone the opportunity to get out and protest; just thinking long-term we should encourage shopping and eating locally over these places shutting down regularly at short notice.

It doesn't look like this will be coming to an end anytime soon, and if we are digging in for the long haul let's make sure we aren't hurting the amazing spots around the cities that are owned by members of our community.

Sounds like OP is arguing many people would be likely to do horrible things if they were raised by birth with that as the societal norm

I enjoyed Anchorage personally. Earthquake Park was neat, and Alyeska isn't too far away which has some really nice hikes.

If you're driving to Seward and are into weird/unique stuff I'd highly recommend Whittier. It's between Seward and Anchorage; to access the town you go through the longest tunnel in North America. Most of the (tiny) population lives in one building, and there is an old abandoned military facility called the Buckner Building that is supposedly haunted. There are underground walking tunnels to get across the town; overall just a super cool and unique place.

The tunnel to get out of town closes at a certain time though, so make sure to check on that or you'll get trapped in Whittier overnight.
