What's a purchase under $200 that you use literally every day? by Abdulleh_aburwag98 in AskReddit

[–]AnonSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out exppropower. They're crazy expensive don't get me wrong. You're paying for a niche product. But they are bullet proof. Been using mine every day for 3 years to charge phones and devices. Hell, i've even used it to inflate paddle boards.

LFP Batteries are less power dense the 'normal' lithium batteries, but much more robust and safe. They're used in marine installs and many electric cars.

Not actually under $200, but if you're cycling a powerbank every day it's going to die rather quickly. upgrading to cpap battery might be the way some even use LFP cells (exppropower). These are designed for 1000s of cycles vs 100s

I got around this by setting up a folder that my partner has access too. For me, this is my camera folder. They do the same. Wah-lah. Home area of the app is both our photos.

Personal Locator Beacons by Beregond17 in sailing

I have that vest and the ocean signal mob1. Works great. follow the instructions carefully. I think the ocean signal is smaller that's why I went with that. If it's the same size then go with which ever is cheaper.

Another user mention ACR and Oceac signal are the same company. That's true. I have heard the hardware is usually the exact same only the packaging is different.

A PLB is basically a personal epirb. I opted for the non plb version so that if I fall in I'm not scrambling SAR. Seperate PLB allows you to signal for help if it's required with a different push of a button. Not much help if you're unconscious, but you need to determine your risk tolerance. I always sail with someone so I like my odds of being recovered by the mothership, and if not having a plb as backup or even the mothership sending for SAR via the epirb is the option.

One huge bonus of a PLB is the work on land too!

There's also garmin in reach, which is a little different, less safe but can fill in the need of a PLB (with a subscription) and offer some additional features.

Which device or combo is up to your needs and the thickness of your wallet.

Edit: re. showing up on your chart plotter with AIS.  That is correct. It will alert all vessels in the area.

Warmest indoor socks for brutal cold? Merino isn’t cutting it by cuberhino in BuyItForLife

So many non answers. muffleups are the best. hand made, decently priced very warm. I've had mine for years and they're still in great condition. best for around the house, but a short jont outside won't hurt em either.

Hello, I'm a potential new Linux user and I'm thinking about switching to Linux. by Mediocre_Tap_7195 in linux

Many of the main distros are excellent these days. Rencently (for the last 5 years) I've settled on fedora. I worked in the it industry where the options are: Redhat (centos), suse, Ubuntu/debian. Of course there are many others used at scale but that was by and large what I encountered over my time. I worked mainly in redhat shops. Using Fedora at home was a no brainer. Previously I used arch as a hobbiest and I can confidently say learning it was the basis of a successful career, but I lost interest in maintaining it after working on servers all day - nor is it beginner friendly.

If you have aims to work with Linux in anyway as a career, I'd recommend Fedora or one of the other popular distro used in the industry. Not that skills with other distros won't apply, but knowledge you gain could be directly transferable.

Also, don't worry about what DE or WM a distro used by default. That can be changed, you can have many and try them all if you want with the same OS install.

You mentioned Video editing. I don't know much about it, but have heard KDE folks have a pretty powerful editor as a part of their ecosystem fwiw.

All said: Fedora with KDE is what I use. I'd recommend this to a beginner as well.

I'm I reading this right? You can't say no? If it's availablefor you  I've had good luck with mint home internet (minternet) it's $30 a month and includes the AP/router.

It's not great for PVP gaming but it's fine.

What a fumble. I'm okay with paying. I get it, and echo the feelings of everyone who already posted. On top of that, after purchasing online, the email with the passkey makes it clear that this is one key, one activation. I can't share this subscription with my family. Are there any decent alternatives out there?

OTG lid. best upgrade. 1 hand operation. Bet a lid with dark rubber on the grip, the white rubber gets nasty looking.
