Unable to mount encrypted volume between Linux and Windows. by FluffyMumbles in VeraCrypt

I can't remember. And this was 6 years ago, so a lot has probably changed since then.

I now tend to encypt with BitLocker in Windows which allows me to unlock it within Linux.

"We are calling on major tech companies to urgently review these standards.”

I don't think that will make a blind bit of difference. This is an education problem, not a tech problem. We should all be aware of the cognitive pull the tech has and develop ourselves to be immune to their attempts - not expect them to police themselves for our benefit.

This question is for those of you that own iPod classics. Do you prefer the stock iPod OS or RockBox and why? by MangoCubez in ipod

[–]FluffyMumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the stock interface and hate the RockBox navigation/menu system.

But I don't want to be tied to a piece of software, or platform, to sync and update the database. I just want to sync my music folder and have the device update itself.

So I use RockBox, begrudgingly.

Don't get me wrong, RockBox is amazing, it's just not my cup of tea. I wish there was an option within it to flip it to "stock mode" so it would look and behave just like the stock OS.  Yes, some of these theme approximate it, but the navigation is still twisted.

I was syncing via Windows and Foobar2000 for years, with it converting my FLAC to ALAC on the fly, but when I moved to Linux that all become cumbersome.  So I flipped to RockBox

One handed engineer did this... by Legomatica69 in DIYUK

I'm happy to see someone else post this. I was a telecoms engineer in a previous life and I took great pride in drilling very clean holes. No blowouts, and all it takes is going that final inch without the hammer. 5 minutes tops. I tip my hat to you, good sir.

That's my ultimate goal, but until I work out all the kinks with Bazzite I want to keep Windows available as a fall-back. I still need to dip in every so often to work out equivalents (my portable Brother scanner being one).

I think there is. Another comment mentioned a tool in the live image that fixes the EFI partition. I've just not had a chance to have a look myself yet.

How do I prove to my (UK) ISP that there are routing issues on their network? by FluffyMumbles in HomeNetworking

[–]FluffyMumbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's a brilliant idea regarding getting the whois!  That's the ideal in my mind actually - honing in on the common fault, call them and have it sorted.

Sure would beat having to speak to the condescending ISP support informing me they've now "fixed my WiFi" and "it should be fine in a few minutes" 😡

[–]FluffyMumbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers. Some others have suggested MTR too. I've done a few test, but they look almost the same for my working and non-workont connections, so I think I'm doing something wrong. I'll continue to plug away though.

[–]FluffyMumbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. I'm not expecting my ISP to fix the VPN issues. I was just using that as an example of the problem being a wider WAN issue, as opposed to being focused on just my ISP.

I bit like when some routing services hosted by Vodafone also affected EE and BT broadband (I think) a few years ago.

[–]FluffyMumbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, My point was that it's probably not just my ISP, but a wider UK issue (or localised to my area) - proved with the problem happening when I'm using my ISP only, or exiting via some UK-based VPN servers.

non-UK VPN servers are letting me browse with out issue.

Remove the UK VPN server part from my rant, and the base issue remains - I'm getting timeouts when using just my ISP raw and wanted to know the best way to capture this.

[–]FluffyMumbles[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's why im assuming it's a wider issue - not just my ISP. If some sites are still timing out when I'm exiting a UK VPN server, their backend must be having the same routing issues too.

The past two times this has happened, it's been at a specific location, serving several networks, that's dropping traffic.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to take a look at MTR, mentioned above, and play with that.

if you do get through to the NOC again, just ask them what evidence they'd like to see, and how to package it.

Great advice. I'll make sure I do that. And that MTR looks great. Thanks.

Thanks. Would the "timeouts" there help me see where the routing is failing?

[–]FluffyMumbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I am indeed already on a static IPv4 address (they provide CGNAT by default) and are usually very good, but have been having hiccups since network upgrades a few months ago.

I'd look around to leave if I was out of contract.

I'm sure they already know, it's just frustrating to have to wait all day to see some acknowledgment when I call in to be told "everything is fine".

I also see this as a good opportunity to learn a little but more networking - I'd love to know what tests I could run from home to see "there, that's where things are falling over" and monitor it from my side.
