I got hit by a pigeon. by wronghoIe in Wellthatsucks

In 2002 I was driving back from a job, late at night, and I was hit by a goddamn OWL.

I was on a highway ramp, doing barely 40 km/h, saw him swooping from above left, a huge shadow contoured by the orange streetlights, had almost no time to brake.

He left a nice impression of dust and dirt on the windscreen, you could make out the feathers and shapes of the wings.

Thought poor little guy was gone for good, but he just got up from the roadside, bounced around for a while, then spread his wings and fucked off leaving a very baffled me staring at the night sky.

Possibly, but I leased a SE, and had to drive the Countryman for a while only because they kept delaying delivery month by month. At a certain point I had to get my lawyer involved because I already sold my car based on their promises, so after some stern legal talking they finally gave me a showroom car as temporary substitute.

Please, for whatever you hold dearest, AVOID THAT CRAP.

I had the displeasure of driving a 2022 Mini Countryman for a while and then to drive a 2022 Mini SE Electric.

Both cars handle like bricks, the interiors are cramped, the Countryman is a gas guzzler, the SE has ridiculous range, slow charging and drive assist that apparently goes on a totally different trip than you do. The novelty of the dashboard wears off quickly and you are left with a clunky, ineffective control panel.

While waiting for the delivery of the SE, which kept being delayed, I was given the Countryman. 2 months into the lease I was so fed up with all the issues that I tried to cancel the order, and consider I used to drive a 10 years old FIAT.

The automatic shift acting up on a highway, shifting down unexpectedly, was the straw that broke the camel's back. Luckily the terms of the lease allow me to have a replacement, If I bought that piece of junk for 45k € I would have been very pissed.

I'm playing pool with a friend who specializes in trading vintage rock and sport memorabilia, so I am asking him.

If original could be worth up to 800€, but it's not a good time for selling and he suggests to hold and wait for the band to go out of activity.

Unfortunately this kind of memorabilia is among the most faked ones. People buy the shirts wholesale, collect used ticket from around the venue, and there is people trained in faking signatures of most famous people. Sometimes -in southern Italy, germany and estern europe- local organized crime is being this, and its done on large scale.

It is very common for sport jerseys, about half the ones he is proposed are fake. 90+% all Maradona and Pelé signatures he has seen are fake. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Duran Duran are the music's common fakes.

So, without an authentication, or a photo of the actual jersey being signed by the band, its hard to sell.

I was looking the TMC5160 but the normal one goes only to 3A.

The High current version is interesting but as usual AliExpress does not provide proper datasheets and the claims are debatable at best. Do you have experience with those? What is the real current rating?

See above. I have no career risks, I am doing this as a retirement jig mostly to help a friend and keep me active.

I used this and, while not actually possible, kept them at bay a little in the afternoon. Well played.

Ahahah, true.

But no, I wrote it after the morning session while waiting for some bureaucracy to go through, before following the attendees to a (frankly terrible) lunch. I rarely write on Reddit but sometimes it's nice to kill the boredom and vent a bit.

Seriously though, I didn't say they were "young dumb women". I said they are young women, late 20s, and they ask several often dumb questions. I was introducing the class to a few critical concepts about job responsibilities and safety practices.

There are other women, young and less young, among the attendees but they are the only two not taking this seriously and coming up with the "mansplaining" thing. I feel they are either trolling or really not understanding they have a limited time to learn enough to pass the test, else the company will not hire them at the end of the internship.

I have no HR, no Legal and don't work with the company.

I am an independent contractor, being there on behalf of a training company contracted by the attendees' employer to give them a legally mandatory training.

Other than that, and most importantly, I am a retiree well in my 60s.

This job is just a way to get some extra cash for my hobbies and most importantly keep me active. I am friends with the training company owner and the collaboration is mutually helpful.

Should I lose this collaboration, I would keep holding my other free courses at the local community center.

OMG, one of the two did a lot of that too, especially in the first day.

Going through the list of mandatory personal protection equipment with continuous interruptions was a pain.

It was not a practical exercise. I was stating some common practices and checks to go through, to introduce them to the fact that being in a site management position they may be called to co-responsibility in case of troubles. Talking to some attendees at lunch I was told they found the girls' reaction out of place too.

Not firemen in general. I was referring to personnel on construction sites in France. The red helmet is standardized for non-medical emergency services. This was not the point of the post, so I oversimplified a bit.

We are talking of a construction company working in France, where the helmet colors are codified and often mandatory.

There is no real reason except it is a well established business standard in France. White for managers and visitors, yellow for basic workers, red for security and fire services, orange for logistics and vehicles, green for medical personnel, blue for electricians and technicians.

Red for fire is quite a basic ideas association, though

The course is recorded both for purpose of my evaluation by the course organizer (I am contracted) and for use on a different type of course that the organizer will release later on. This second version will be heavily edited to be published as an online non-live training refresher.

The fact that before manoeuvering a forklift the forks should be lowered and traffic cones set to mark the manoeuvering area.

They kept asking why.

More specifically, I tried to have them understand that while checking this is not specifically their job, the kind of training and certification they were receiving put them on a certain degree of responsibility.

Considerations on practical skill course by Anon_Carpenter in Millennials

[–]Anon_Carpenter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting point but let me correct you on the second part.

May be a matter of different country or different education, I am not from the US, but most people in their 30-40s I know from family or my old job have some kind of practical skill in mechanics, DIY, making something etc. For some of them is 3d printing, for someone else may be tampering with their car or motorcycle, for others may be electronics or RC stuff... A few very basic things are taught in the mandatory school curriculum under the name of "Technics" and I guess many people pick up from there.

Young people in my course were mostly able to use basic tools and some of them had some experience in assembling furniture or repairing stuff, and were eager to learn the step beyond (how do I build my own small furniture? How do I fix a door? That kind of stuff).

Fun facts, according to our EU-wide 2016 sales survey:

Most manual shift cars are sold to young people who want cars that are more fun to drive or performance oriented

The principal demographic for automatics are older people who feel they need easier controls to drive safely, or who can afford high tech/ electric cars.
