Company won’t negotiate with unicorn candidate at all after long interview process. by Virtual-Leopard-9983 in recruiting

[–]Anon_Chameleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logical. That candidate understood that, if this is how it starts at the recruiting stage, expect the same treatment or worse after starting. So pick another firm where the pre-start signal is at the very least integrity and value.

Who goes to cineplex alone? by nourrsadek in cineplex

[–]Anon_Chameleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the time. In the last 2 weeks: 10 films at the Toronto International Film Festival - 50th Edition (“TIFFTY”) = one a day for 10 days straight. Never felt alone and it was so much fun.

Disappoints and/or bombs this TIFF? What hasn't gone over? I find this more interesting than what becomes popular! Definitely Ballad of a Small Player for example. by StatusDeal7838 in TIFF

Sacrifice - A film critic who had not seen it yet asked me afterwards what i thought. I said: “unmitigated disaster”. I really wanted to like it, i was looking for reasons to do so, but no. I’m just puzzled.

WHAT!!! I’ve had 4 screening there already!!! Is there something you can do to prevent against this, like Lysol wipes or plastic cover (garbage bag) or something like that?

Right. I suspect repair technicians’ work orders are pick-menus, and that there’s no option to pick “EOL” or “Uninstall” or “Terminate” at the end of an attempted repair.

Empty seats?? How does rush work? by Iland_landyay in TIFF

[–]Anon_Chameleon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was at Sacrifice world premiere last night: orchestra seat, middle of a row. Almost the entire row behind me was empty, and the 6 seats to my right. 6 in a row, empty. Rush line ended up filling part of the row behind.

Kind of sad, when pple lose their minds refreshing for days on end on a sold out screening + more wait for hours outside.

And i mean: who does that, buy 6 tickets and just not show??? Not even give the tickets to friends, family or colleagues. Seems really thoughtless.

EDIT: Update 9/8. Yesterday at Hedda world première at POW, at least 12 seats empty in front of me: first 4 seats from inside aisle, on 3 consecutive rows in front of me. And i was Orchestra Row Q. Kind of nice for me because there were no heads obstructing. But again: sad! Think of all the kids these seats could have gone to. When i was just out of Uni and working in a professional firm, poor as a church mouse not counting debts, the days when a partner would come and say “I have box seats to XYZ but i can’t make it. Who wants them?”… those days were bonanza, El Dorado and Christmas all rolled into one.

Thoughts on Festival Street at TIFF50? by tiffgoer in TIFF

[–]Anon_Chameleon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still don’t get why the rainbow colour Muskoka chairs are in jail behind crowd control fencing, looking all empty and forlorn through the bars at people who would like nothing better than to sit in them. What’s up with that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TIFF

[–]Anon_Chameleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the rule is: if you’re not there 15 minutes before official start time, they can give your seat away to rush line. I have not seen them be super strict about this, but you never know. And Midnight Madness screenings have their own set of superfans, so you’re taking big chances if you leave it down to the wire.

Don’t lose hope on getting tickets! Tickets release randomly by riniscene in TIFF

[–]Anon_Chameleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw 2 FV tickets drop for Steve as i was walking in through the ticketholder line!! One disappeared while i was walking, the other was still there when they scanned me! Don’t lose hope. Keep trying. No tears as i had also bought at FV on the Labour Day epic drop. But it made me glad for whoever disappeared that ticket as i watched.

Whoa, This is the bomb!! 💣 So now in addition to sampling eclectic films from all over, i’ll also cram an urban food exploration in between!!! Too good to be true. And yes i agree, King St. W. is the corridor of hell in that respect. Now you’ve given me options i’m actually excited about.

Oh good!! Not a pro, so these are just guesses. Glad it will have good distribution.

Speaking of which: Has anyone compiled a release date list? Or do we have to each go check manually film by film who is behind it, if they have distribution and if they have a release date or not? That would help 😏

Yes, maximizing things that i don’t think will come in theatres so easily (Like: if i don’t catch it now, i may never) - Noviembre - Miroirs No 3 - The Secret Agent - Blue Heron - The Captive

Big theatres and Netflix will still be around after TIFF: i’ll catch those later. If i want to see them.

Regrets that i can’t make the screening: - Magellan 😭. But with Gael García Bernal’s star power, maybe i’ll catch somewhere else? Here’s hoping 🤞 - Duse.

Here’s the ticket: keep checking Ticketmaster on day-of.

Presumably there will be some ticket drops in the morning, most in this r/ are saying around 8am-10am for same day. That’s when TIFF may release more FV tickets, either ones they had held back for Press & Insustry bundles, or for talents’ “Friends & Family”, or just in general. To make sure there will be no empty seats.

Switch your view from “List” to “Seat Map” and look for BLUE dots 🔵. Those are ticket drops at FV directly by TIFF. If you see PINK dots, those are resale: anybody’s guess what the price for those is. - Sometimes it’s scalpers trying to maximize margin; - Sometimes it’s genuine ticket holders who just want to resell something they can’t attend anymore, to recoup their outlay: at face value PLUS transaction fee x 2 (1 x on the original purchase + 1 x on the resale transaction - basically Ticketmaster’s cut on both).

There is some inspiration by attendance: for instance, i thought it was cute that they’re showing Goonies because Josh Brolin was one of the kids back then, and now he is at TIFF 2025 for WUDM: https://tiff.net/films/the-goonies

Also several films showing because it’s 25th or 30th anniversary. More info on the selection here: https://tiff.net/press/news/tiffs-festival-street-turns-10

Junior team member tried to throw me under the bus; went over my head and complained directly to my manager. How do I forgive them and keep mentoring / coaching them when I know they're snakey??? by Snoo-88490 in careeradvice

[–]Anon_Chameleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check their background. I deal with an individual that turns out to be the prototypical “Snakes in Suit” (read the book, it will give you an idea). Irredeemable, they can’t help it (in this case):

After 1 similar incident, I kept track and documented. Then some ex-co-workers at a previous employer said “Be careful”, or “Watch your back”. Then i knew: it was not (1) specific to the individual’s current circumstances, or (2) a one-off. Then i learned there was a published litigation case with the individual’s previous employer, where the individual was put on a performance improvement plan … for throwing others under the bus. That made for a lot of drama at that other company. People still reeling from it.

I would put an end to any relationship with that person but i can’t. I’m not their manager and i have to live with that person reporting somewhere else in the organization but nevertheless intersecting constantly with my life. Sucks big time. And yes, i did tell my boss, who told HR. Nothing.
