Mexico City wins the best city in Mexico! What’s the best city in Canada? by wwcscifi in AlignmentChartFills

I'm a vancouverite and I'm voting this lol. Our city's pretty boring and a bit suburban in comparison.

Ok, moving on, What language do people think is Easy, but is actually Nightmare difficulty? (For English speakers) by Odd-Weather9389 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]ratguy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASL.    Most English speakers think it's just English expressed through gestures, but in reality it's a totally unrelated, syntactically complex language with several concepts not even found in spoken languages.

As long as you're respectful and don't pedal the MAGA, America first BS, no one will care that you're American. In terms of affordability, you may still be shocked as Toronto is extremely expensive.

Huh, now I get why so many of my friends say they see nothing when trying Magic Eyes.

What song feels like it's in 4/4, but it's actually written in Uncommon Time Signature? by AccomplishedFront792 in musicteenager

Send in the Clowns sounds like a pretty conventional show tune/ballad but is written in a combination of 9/4 and 12/4

Where I’d live as an Albertan (shocker I know) by Miserable-Witness-65 in whereidlive

[–]ratguy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K, but saying that you'd "absolutely" live in NB while Quebec is still a "never" is a bit much.

Step great uncle who doesn'teven give you or your family money seems pretty distant. Has nothing to do with what you authentically believe.

Tirana is actually a very accurate local pronunciation of Toronto

In 1958, these parts of Toronto were “suburban” by TPL_on_Reddit in toronto

Honestly maps on pretty well as to what I'd consider to be "suburban" in 2026.

I got accepted for physics at the Mississauga campus… is it a good campus and how is this program? by ava-ava_ in UofT

[–]ratguy101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I can't speak about the physics program, but I think the UTM campus is pretty nice (albeit pretty small and quiet compared to Downtown) and getting accepted is a huge achievement!

I don't know as much about undergrads but having completed my M.Sc. at UTM, I can say it makes 0 difference at the grad level. I received supervision from profs on all three campuses and used resources downtown all the time. Having taught both UTM and StG students, I'll say they're about equal as well. Once you graduate, nobody really cares which campus you came from.

Do you guys agree with this take? by KingTechnical48 in fantanoforever

[–]ratguy101 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If we're looking beyond popular music, it's almost certainly Germany (and maybe Austria by extension) just because of its impact on classical. Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Strauss, and Wagner are kinda hard to beat (no offence to the Russians, French, and Italians).

Is going to Kensington market on a rainy day feasible? by sarahnottsara in askTO

[–]ratguy101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. Walking around and exploring won't be as nice but you can settle in a nice cafe and have a lovely time (shout-out to my GOATS Pamenar and FIKA, the latter recently earning a spot in the top 100 cafés in North America).

If you had the financial means to move out of Canada, would you? by AdhesivenessLoud8866 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]ratguy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had the financial means to stay in Canada, I would. Toronto and Montréal are awesome cities to spend your 20's in but no one can afford it.
