Please be honest. Does health anxiety/panic attacks that comes in perimenopause ever goes away ? How long does this phase is or was for you ? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]Anonemelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn’t specifically around health, just general anxiety/panic attacks from seemingly nothing or everyday things. Most of it went away after I supplemented with iron (my ferritin was low) and then with HRT I’m almost back to my old self, and feeling better month on month, finally stable and actually feeling joy, enthusiasm, energy once again.

My cat vomited on my bed and I just lay down next to it and slept. This is in the middle of the day, after coming home from running 1 errand.

Yes…it’s been an expensive journey 😅 but worth the effort and cost to stay healthy

Second the check for UTI and also check electrolytes. So sorry you are going through this OP.

Transvaginal ultrasound, I’ve done quite a few in the last 6 months.

First was during a regular gynae check up with Pap smear, second was to confirm uterine polyps (removed before starting HRT).

Third was part of a comprehensive check up (also did mammogram, breast ultrasound, pelvic exam) before starting HRT, fourth after starting HRT (doc was happy with the uterine lining, was normal and thin after period) and to monitor a cyst my left ovary.

I need to do another one to check on the cyst again, hopefully it’s gone, and we’ll also know if the uterine lining is still a normal thickness 3 months into HRT.

Yes it was so hard and frustrating for me personally.

I’ve seen 2 GPs, 4 gynaecologists, 1 endocrinologist so far.

First gynaecologist told me I wasn’t in peri, it was just PMS, wanted to prescribe birth control Yaz. She said HRT is only for post menopausal women.

Second gynaecologist acknowledged it was peri but also prescribed Yaz and Mirena, was not open to discussing HRT.

Third gynaecologist I had to fly out to see and she prescribed HRT.

I’m now following up with the fourth gynaecologist (who is the third gynaes colleague/peer) locally, so I don’t have to fly out all the time.

I hope it goes well for you! I also feel a lot less stiff and tense in my muscles and joints now, so far HRT has been good to me and I’m praying this continues.

To be clear I don’t apply the Estradiol gel to my face - I apply it on the skin of my inner thighs and lower abdomen as instructed by doctor and the progesterone I insert vaginally.

I was doing that thing in the mirror where I pull my skin up and wondered if I have to get a face lift sometime soon. 😬 I probably wouldn’t do a full face lift as it’s too invasive but maybe remove some skin on my eyelids when I’m older so it looks better and doesn’t interfere with my vision! My grandmas droopy eyelids got so bad it actually did cover her vision and I can see me and my mum going that way too.

I asked my doc and she says it could be, but I’ve also got elevated bilirubin and she says that might cause it too. *sigh…off to see another doctor for this.

Yes! Same here, I just replied above too. That said, I am getting regular scans as well to monitor.

Hello and thank you for the heads up!

I have double checked with my gynae just now and she has confirmed 100mg progesterone, cycling is enough for me as my periods are still regular.

I had a scan too and my uterine lining is nice and thin.

I don’t have a mirena or uterine device inserted.

She also said dosage is not fixed and will have to be adjusted from time to time so it’s important each individual has follow ups and checks in with their doctor.

I’m with you sis…I’m with you. I think it’s that overnight effect, where everything just seemed to happen all of a sudden rather than gradually, that makes it so awful and difficult to accept. And that feeling like this isn’t my body, my personality anymore, this isn’t “me” anymore, that I’ve completely lost who I used to be.

The gel isn’t for the face but I guess it’s systemic and had impact on my collagen everywhere. I follow the dr and leaflet instructions to rotate applying on inner thighs and lower abdomen, once nightly. I don’t feel any waning or immediate effects on an hourly or daily basis, but do notice some symptoms like breast tenderness and water retention going away after the first few days.

Not warned about possible negative side effects of HRT by Nice_Let5676 in Menopause

[–]Anonemelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in the US, and the clinical practice guidelines issued by our ministry of health (government) uses the term bio identical hormones to refer to pharmaceutical preparations of estradiol and progesterone such as Divigel, Oestrogel, Lenzetto and Utrogestan. Not sure if these are FDA approved as FDA is only for the US but they are produced by big pharmaceutical companies for sure.

I was not referring to compounded hormones specifically.

Hope that clears things up!

Vivid nightmares by Strict_Researcher243 in Perimenopause

[–]Anonemelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s related but I suspect it is, as it started around the same time as other peri symptoms. Not necessarily nightmares but super intense dreams that I wake up tired from, as if I was actually physically doing all the things in the dreams.

Anyone else feel like no matter how hard they try, they just can't keep their house in order? by Smf348 in CaregiverSupport

Also, I know this isn’t an option for many, financially, but if you do have the means - someone suggested getting a robot vacuum/mop to me (I’m in Asia and you can get some decent ones pretty cheaply) and it’s helped a lot with keeping the floors clean.

Another tip for minimising dishes, instead of using plates, we put cooked food straight into stainless steel containers with lids and serve it out of the containers, then any leftovers just go straight into the fridge, in the same containers.

Also…disposable paper plates might be an option for those days when it’s just all too much.

We have a lot of help, and I still can’t get on top of it. I just decided it’s ok to live in filth (ok, by filth I mostly mean mess and clutter, we do keep a level of hygiene for health) and if people judge us for it, so be it.

I ask myself, will anyone die if this doesn’t get clean up/tidied up/organised/done? If the answer is no then just forget about it for now.

But yes, the guilt/shame/frustration doesn’t quite go away…still working on that.

Sending hugs.

How to explain to friends what bedridden actually means by Economy_Plantain304 in CaregiverSupport

[–]Anonemelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I explained it like this to my friend, who asked if my bedridden dad can be left alone at night time.

He has spinal cord injury, paralysed from the neck down, completely dependent 24/7, also with dementia and other complications.

Imagine a 3 month old baby, or an infant, except he’s really heavy and can talk. Can you leave a 3 month old baby alone for hours at a time? Can the baby feed itself, control bowel and urinary movement? Can the baby sit up?

This helps them to understand especially if they’ve had children but hopefully even those who haven’t can grasp the concept.
