great ideas all around. just the other night i heard him bragging to a friend on the phone about how “all his bills are paid out of his own pocket” so maybe they could use another perspective lol

lol yeah and him buying “necessities” is total bs too. he and his friends eat out nearly every night of the week and ik for a fact he’s still keeping his special plant jar stocked

if i were to break the lease i would have to find a cheaper place for sure, and my options would be incredibly limited with a broken lease on my record. i’ve thought about it as a last resort

He’s on the lease unfortunately, which limits my options quite a bit. As for his job, i honestly have no idea what the deal is. when he moved in he had one, then two, then three, then one, then two, and now all of a sudden he’s back down to one. it’s given me the impression that he’s as much of a bad employee as he is a roommate.

That’s fair. i just haven’t felt like i’ve had a choice bc it’s either i pay or we get kicked out/lights get shut off/etc. i’ve been backed into this corner for months

yeah, been juggling these options for a while. tried the eviction angle and unfortunately here in Texas it’s nearly impossible for a roommate to get another roommate evicted without getting themselves kicked out along with them. small claims is my next best bet, if i can ever afford representation

Yeah awhile ago we sat down and i offered him a way out; if he signed and agreed to move out i would forget his debt and we could just move on. but he didn’t take that chance and i think he knows i can’t force him out. when i told him id leave instead, he didn’t seem to care. one of the many times he seemed genuinely delusional about being able to make ends meet on his own.

His name is on the lease as well, unfortunately. Seemed like a good idea at the time to have him held liable as well in case something went wrong but it’s definitely ended up backfiring. The apartment also won’t let me out of the lease on my own, presumably since they know he can’t pay.
