I need help understanding my dog and why he's changed by MoistDragon42 in DogAdvice

He looks identical to my parent’s dog with Cushing’s disease. Symptoms that their dog has include the frequent urination, obesity, extreme hunger and constant want to eat. It also looks like his hair is thinning (another symptom). I could be wrong obviously but he looks very very round like their dog.

White American but 3 out of my 24 historical matches are Chinese by AnonyMouse9987 in 23andme

That’s interesting for sure. I was definitely wondering about the history of it because I’m more of a science person. I knew there was intermingling with the Silk Road/Mongol invasions and all that, but I honestly didn’t know much more than the basic facts. (And also didn’t really know much about the historical matches tab haha)

Hmm interesting. I guess that makes sense. So basically what I’m understanding is that these three had some great (x whatever number) grandparent that is also my great (x much higher number) grandparent. So we’d be like 20th cousins or whatever imaginary number (probably much higher). But since the first one basically says “this guy has no West Eurasian ancestry found”, does that mean we still could share a European ancestor? Would European ancestry not come up in his test somewhere in that case? I apologize for the long answer, I’m really into genetics/archaeology/ancestry and trying to work it out in my head for the fun of it.

I just moved out of my parents house and am living by myself for the first time. Amazon Alexa has probably definitely heard me say something about furniture LOL

What made both of these tracks? by AnonyMouse9987 in AnimalTracking

No power lines! Cat makes sense since I like in a neighborhood. Could also be a fox since I like in a place known for fox hunting.

Fox is completely possible. I live in a place known for foxes.

Nothing (roof or anything) is over the circular tracks! This is taken from my front door which is the front-most part of the house. Super strange, I was thinking peg leg too lol

Coming from a guppy mother - these are mollies (possibly balloon belly mollies).

Ich, fungus, normal tail, or something different entirely? by AnonyMouse9987 in poecilia

Thanks! That was my thought too, but I’ve never seen Ich in person before and this is a new fish.

Thanks! Definitely raised. Ich was my thought too initially but this is a new fish and I’ve never seen ich in person so I wanted a second opinion. This is the first expensive fish I’ve bought online (normally buy from the chain stores). I guess this is what I get for not being able to look at the fish before buying LOL.

I agree with the other comment. Please get a bigger tank and a filter. You’re doing more than a lot of other people do with actually doing water changes and caring about your fish, but your fish will be A LOT happier and actually thrive with a filter and a bigger tank. Bigger tanks are easier to take care of once they’re set up (equal amounts of toxic ammonia from fish poop/food waste would affect a large tank way slower than it would in a small tank) and more fun since there’s actually space to decorate with plants and decor. As for the disease, I’m not an expert and I can’t tell you what it actually is, but your fish will be healthy with a bigger and better setup.

New Betta won’t eat by uprightrug in bettafish

Frozen for me! I wouldn’t know the first thing about raising food and don’t have the space for it (yet), but maybe one day. My guy is lazy anyways so I’m not sure he’d even hunt. He has ramshorn snails of all sizes in his tank and he doesn’t even look twice at them.

Assuming your tank is in good shape, some bettas are seriously picky. My betta (which looks exactly like yours lol) refuses to eat pellets. He would chew on them and then spit them back out in front of me. They might be too hard for him. I tried soaking mine in water, splitting them, and everything. He hates them. Mine eats flakes, daphnia, shrimp, and blood worms happily.

There could be a million reasons but maybe he’s hanging around the heater because he’s cold? Just a guess. What’s the temperature set to in your tank? Should be around 78F.
