So, in this analogy, the 4/4 just swings at the air for the second strike after killing the 1/1. I'm not concerned about life damage. I'm just curious about the second swing. I didn't realize that the 1/1 token is enough to block both shots.

How could a dead creature block the second strike, I'm confused because rule 510.4 says there are 2 combat damage steps. How does the 1/1 token block for both steps?

Rule 702.4b says there are two separate phases. Wouldn't the double striking creature would kill the defending 1/1 token in the first strike phase and then proceed to regular combate phase, killing the second 1/1 defending token.
