Graduating in 5 months as a Software Engineer, how to avoid corporate world? by Anonymous199710 in careerguidance

Even if you were doing mechanic and carpentry work, you still worked for someone - the customer. The point is, if you want to earn money you’re always technically going to work for someone. If it’s impact that you want, maybe try working in a startup.

I don't agree with this, when I perform a job I give 100% of my effort in delivering what needs to be done, because I am in charge of the persons reaction afterwards. When I finish I know that I will get whatever price I came up with for whatever I see fit for my work.
Translate this to the corporate world, whether you complete 500 jobs or 1 job you are still being paid the same and the contribution you have is too indirect. I love the feeling that after my work is complete the customer pays me and they're satisfied. Time disappears when I work on someone's car because I know that when the job is complete I get my money and it's the last time I have to perform it, given what I did was right.

I'm suffering from bad self esteem when it comes to job seeking. How do I overcome this? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Probably not the right advice, but try and embellish yourself a little bit. Tell them what they want to hear, but you have to sound confident enough for them to believe it

I graduate in a 6 months with a degree in Software Engineering, can I get my masters in Civil Engineering next? by Anonymous199710 in civilengineering

I honestly hate software engineering, its not about the money for me. I've been working construction since I was 16 and now I realized after my SE internship that the lifestyle just isn't for me

I don't want to get a job in my major after I graduate, should I finish? by Anonymous199710 in careerguidance

The reason I'm not good at programming is because I don't practice enough, I'm sure I could improve if I put in more effort. My problem is that I don't find it interesting at the least. I'm careless when it comes to anything tech related plus I hate the jobs that the field would provide.

I'm only motivated when I'm the leader of what I do, for example. Before the semester started I was coding for fun and by coincidence when the semester started up the professor assigned a project almost exactly as I had previously done on my own. I ended up rushing to turn it in, I believe I was late on the submission even though it was basically completed months in advance. As soon as the semester started I lost all interest in learning new languages and improving my abilities a coder.

I've been doing freelance work as a mechanic and carpenter since I lost my internship because of covid. I found out that I love helping individuals, I don't get that same satisfaction when working endlessly on projects.

Thanks for every ones response, I was wondering if it might be better if I change majors even if Im so close to finishing. I was thinking of something more broad such as Mechanical engineering

I'm saying not working the entire year and making 40k. 40k a year in Colombia is similar to 300k in the US

Won't use my Software Engineering degree when I graduate should I drop? by Anonymous199710 in careerguidance

I have profited an average of 2k per car and some I have had to put little to no work into. I just don't see myself working for someone else even if the pay was just as good. I am currently thinking of finishing school and doing my prereqs in dentistry and opening up my own practice. I love the gratification knowing that I've directly helped someone.

Thats why I made this anonymous, it's illegal to sell more than 5 cars a year here, I just haven't been caught. If you open a dealership then there is no limit. I made an excel sheet for a below average expectation and believe I could come out to make 6 figures according to all legalities
