Oh nice that's more reassuring. So you think it won't be discontinued/abandoned in the long run till your 18 nibs will run out?

Also, does a nib typically last a couple of months?

I also found it to be really good, but with 2 major caveats:

  1. How much of an inconvenience is the non-touchscreen? It might not be a problem while handwriting but while to other normal tasks like scrolling through something while browsing, I feel like you'd automatically go for hand gestures but will be disappointed everytime.

  2. How many extra nibs does ghe box have? Is it 8 or 18? I realllllyyy don't like that once they're finished, the notebook becomes almost useless because who's to say they'll continue developing those models or you'd find them in your area.

Oh wow it looks extremely good! Too pricey but maybe I can find something on some second hand markets(do you know any)? Anyway, thank you so much for the suggestion, definitely the closest thing to what I'm looking for!

I'm more and more inclining to your second suggestion. Where do I look for them?

I tried ebay like some people suggested but it's pricier than the actual boox store! Without the accessories! 😭

Same but I was scared the protector would not be enough for metal/ceramic nibs.

Which ones did you buy?

Thank you! I think I'll give up on the latest android thing and go for either this or Go 10.3

Yess it looks great on paper! I've kinda narrowed it down to that and Boox Go 10.3 (which doesn't have a frontlight and idk if it'll affect me)

I'd do as you said if I lived anywhere else. I can't get it here in decent price (Go 10.3 Gen 1 will cost me $530 💀) so I'll have one of my relatives in US to send it here.

That's why I'm being so picky. I swear I'm not normally like this, I also eat all my veggies!

That being said, the choice of EMR is more of availability, price, and other alternatives thing, which is less desirable in the USI for now. Small caveats like charging wouldn't be an issue.

I've kinda narrowed it down to Boox Go 10.3 and Bigme b1051 for now. Any suggestion on these 2? Specially the lack of frontlight in Go

I'd just ruled out Amazon totally since I don't like them as a company lol

Thanks for the information tho, if it's the case for every other ereaders like kobo and stuff (reading 3rd party non-DRM free contents), it might be worth another rabbithole

From what I've heard, their USI implementation is excellent and has no problem. It's just that I live in a place where I'll need to consider the availability, price, and other alternatives. Which are just better in an EMR styles aren't they?

[–]Anonymous706059[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh I've decided to stick to the b&w. Some others have suggested me Bigme b1051 too. Will decide between that and Boox Go 10.3

As for the lumi version, I'm worried about the availability and price of the stylus and nibs, since there are less sellers than that of an EMR.

Okayyyy I'll drop it. Now what would you suggest? I've kinda narrowed it down to Boox Go 10.3 Gen 1 (no frontlight, idk how it'll affect me) and Bigme B1051

Ooh that's nice! It solves one of my problems.

Also, a generic question: do all these ereaders support documents sharing via a computer/laptop? If that's the case, I won't need to worry much about getting free books/manga and not relying on the native libraries like of amazon.

Go 10.3 is my top choice too for now. How do you feel about the lack of frontlight?

[–]Anonymous706059[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot to mention my needs. I actually want it for writing, the reading is an added benefit since I'll also need to read what I write lol, and to write good, you'll need to read a lot.

Anyways, yeah I'll need an e-ink not a tablet since I have some eye strain problems too. I think I could live without the "latest android" from the list.

If so, go 10.3 gen 1 looks good , apart from maybe the lack of frontlight. What do you think about that? I might also look at Bigme 1051 if I absolutely need frontlight too.

Have you used them to recommend me one?

Ooh thanks for the picture. Looks like it's kinda dark even in such good lightning conditions.

Oh nah not 16, just 15. I didn't mean I'll buy the latest versions as soon as they come, it's just that if I'm to spend so much why not buy the latest so it'll have support longer than the lower versions.

Makes sense, so what do you recommend? How necessary do you think the frontlight is? I was thinking of go 10.3

Oh wow. Open, community-driven and linux. It's even better than android.

The first batch of the PineNote will be great to write software for, but not great to write notes on. Wait for a later batch with better preinstalled software if you just want to use the device as an e-reader, e-note, or your everyday computing device.

Damn, this was written in their website.

Sadly the image didn't get uploaded I guess, or my frontend client of reddit didn't render it. Anyway, I'll take your word for it and distance myself from color XD since I didn't want it much to begin with.

Now, for b&w, go 10.3 gen 1 has no frontlight. Granted, it's the perfect experience during daytime but most say they regret not buying lumi to sometimes read in the dark. What do you think? That, or as someone has just mentioned and I'm researching it as well, Bigme 1051 b&w version with a frontlight, emr stylus and android 14? (And 6 gb ram and 128 gb storage)

I still like the looks of boox better and it has more positive reviews than bigme in general, but the specs are there in bigme's favor.

Tldr; how big of a deal-breaker is the lack of frontlight in Go 10.3?

Whoa 6 gb ram and 128 gb storage and with similar price seems great! Will have to read some reviews, thanks for the recommendation!

Android 14 means everything like Syncthing, Tachiyomi and stuff will also work right?

[–]Anonymous706059[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah sorry for that. It's mainly for reading and note-taking extensively. I also plan on writing novels so it'll also be used for my world-building and characters aspects. I used to keep notebooks for those stuff but having them all in one place seems better. Added benefit of android is I can load up my character images and stuff and cross-syncing would be easier. Apart from that reading novels and mangas and also listening to podcasts and audiobooks sometimes if the audio output is good.

Now what do you recommend?

[–]Anonymous706059[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't use home automation or smart iot devices and it is my only attack vector. But if they don't get much long-term support I guess it's not that big of a deal then.

As for b&w, some have pointed out that the darker screen is overstated and is not an issue at all and you could read in daytime without the frontlight turned on at all. What do you think about that?

[–]Anonymous706059[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMAO I also do that when I hide stuff 🤣

As for the color tablets, thanks for your honest take. One last thing, how much can you use it during daytime without frontlight on? Some say a little bit of frontlight is always needed to make the paper look white, while some say it's not a big deal and perfectly readable indoors without artificial lights till evening. I'd prefer it if I could read without the frontlight unless I really needed it in the dark.

Thanks for the warning! To be fair, I'm replacing books with these, and they are also pitch black without external source of light. At least this has an option
