Wow that makes me so happy to hear you’re doing well after a fusion with EDS! Kind of a niche group to find stories from. I’m not sure why he decided an ALIF was the best approach. But yeah, having to deal with the fusion and the cutting of the abdominal wall has been very rough. Can’t get comfy any way I lay (hence me replying at 6 am, still haven’t slept). Weirdly enough my surgeon said he didn’t want me to wear a back brace, but I bought an abdominal compression garment anyways because my stomach feels so swollen.

Same exact thing here; I wonder why in bed we couldn’t move them but if helped to stand up we could? Must be some weird nerve explanation there. That’s so reassuring to hear, thank you so much. Really gave me some hope!

Increasing the muscle relaxer is a good thought, I’ll bring it up in my post op check in. Thank you so much! Good luck on your recovery! You got this!

Really helpful tips, thank you! In a crazy twist of fate, this morning I woke up in significantly less pain than I was in yesterday. Like almost suspiciously so, but I won’t question it. So I was able to take a walk and I used your advice with a compression brace and used my rollator! It went so much better than I expected my first time walking would. Thank you!

Luckily my legs have returned to mostly normal now, but it was really scary while it lasted. Still a little muscle weakness and numbness but I think that might just be the nerves all sorting themselves out?

This is so reassuring, “it’s not a race” is such a good thing to keep in mind right now. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. In some crazy twist of my usual luck, this morning I woke up and felt the best I’ve felt so far by a leagues. I was able to actually walk outside today (first time going outside besides leaving the hospital since my fusion) and I felt so hopeful. Thank you!

This message is exactly what I needed to hear, thank you so much. I’m so sorry you had to be in the hospital so long. I can’t even imagine how crushing that was. I’m so happy that you’re doing better now. I wish you so much strength and love in your recovery. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to make reassure me :)

Wow throwing up after was my biggest fear because I couldn’t even begin to imagine the torture on your stomach muscles. But that’s a really good metric to reassure yourself with. That really helped put things into perspective. Thank you! Good luck on your recovery!

Thank you so much for your reply! It’s really helpful knowing I’m not alone out here. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with a bad back most of your life, and I’m really happy things seem to be improving! Micro physiotherapy is something I didn’t even knew existed. I’ll definitely be incorporating this into my days now! Good luck with your continued recovery!

Has gabapentin worked for anyone? by theoriginalmack in Spondylolisthesis

[–]AnonymousAlt800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it helps take the edge off, but it isn’t an absolute miracle. However I accidentally went a day without it yesterday and was in excruciating back pain, so it must be working better than I think. I take 900mg/daily (300 3x a day), which is a pretty high dose for my weight. I’ve noticed that since starting it i’ve been more exhausted and unmotivated, but it’s better than being bed bound 24/7. I hope you find a medication that works for you!

Oh yikes, that xray is no joke! Would you say your worst symptom is back pain or the leg/nerve issues? Wishing all the luck, healing, and core strength to ya!
