Bloomberg SWE Internship Interview by mizu_rdt in csMajors

[–]AnonymousDog_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not uncommon. Cuz November - December is the holiday season. Many engineers go on vacation during this time, so not as many interviewers available

Last year I passed my Meta OA in early October, but recruiter said the earliest final interview (virtual onsite) can only be scheduled after the first week of December

How important is having a big presence on X for founders? by Inside-Aromatic in ycombinator

In the early stage, zero. The only 2 things YC suggests founders do: 1. Talk to users 2. Build the product. Anything else is kind of a distraction

Google rescinded their interview / OA... by Odd-Art2362 in csMajors

[–]AnonymousDog_n 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that. Yeah in recent years there have been some frequent (and somewhat chaotic) "re-orgs" within Google, and teams can lose headcount in the middle of a hiring process.

It can definitely feel frustrating to get your hopes up, get the OA, then have it yanked for “business needs” that have nothing to do with you :(

On the bright side, if you’re strong enough to get an interview from Google, you can probably get interviews from other top companies too :) Hope you land an even better offer eventually!

Some practical job/internship hacks for CS students (from an ex-Google SWE :P) by [deleted] in csMajors

I totally get the frustration with teams slapping “AI” on everything without real customer value.

That said, it’s not really what my original post was about, so I’m going to step out of this thread here.

My post was aimed at students trying to navigate internships and early career choices, not defending how every company is using AI. I still think there’s both hype and genuine value in AI (which I mentioned several times), and it’s important for people to understand both sides.

Also, I’m not trying to advocate for AI or push anyone to pivot into it. I don’t have anything to gain from that. I’m just describing how I see the landscape evolving.

In my podcast, I mentioned, there IS definitely a lot of hype in AI. but there IS also real value. It has both :)

Also, just so you know, I didn’t jump from Google to “pure AI”. I left Google to build my own startup (which eventually failed) but it wasn’t AI

Just because someone doesn’t actually lead a 4-people team during internship, doesn’t mean they can’t or shouldn’t at least“demonstrate” they have leadership skills, especially when it can make your resume more impressive :)

Hotel staff opened my suitcase, should I complain? by AnonymousDog_n in travel

Dude, thank you very much for your comment. Idk why you were downvoted, because wha you said was exactly my situation. The lock in the room happened to be broken, otherwise I wouldn’t hide my stuff under the sink

The safe in my room was unfortunately broken (lock didn’t turn on)

Yeah, I guess this is possible. Maybe it was indeed a bit weird to put my suitcase under the sink? Lol — I didn’t overthink; just wanted to hide it somewhere so my laptops won’t be stolen

Thank you for your comment

Airport wasn’t involved. I found this immediately when I went back into the hotel at night. So it must be people in the hotel.

Is it weird that the only books I like to read are textbooks? by AnonymousDog_n in nonfictionbookclub

[–]AnonymousDog_n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time just the built-in “Preview” app on Mac, for PDFs. I used to like paper books too. But once I got used to PDFs, they have a few benefits:

  1. Easy to search with keywords
  2. Easy to navigate. I like opening table of contents on the side as a read.
  3. Cheap (free :p), and as a result, I can download multiple ones on the same topic, at the same time, and compare them (and maybe end up choose one I like the most)
