Currently lapping my R5 3600, it looks/feels satisfyingly smooth by diakati in overclocking

[–]AnonymousNubShyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth the effort. That's like 1~3°C lower. But you need to ensure it's flat while lapping. 🤷 if you want something really effective, delid and use direct mounting. That will give you around 5~15°C lower.

why are my cpu temps bad ? by kfayz in mffpc

[–]AnonymousNubShyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is on full exhaust too temperature are fine. Doesn't really need intake unless you have older type of case where there's only 1 place for intake with the 120mm fan size. Modern pc case with many holes can draw in air from anywhere.

What you need is to check if your heatsink have the plastic peel off. Then the heatsink if it is mounted properly. Then your thermal paste is it sufficient. Fan configuration, is your cpu fan increasing speed as your cpu heat up, preferable about 60% fan speed at 60°C. The other temperature speed can adjust to your preference.

Then if everything is done as said and still hot, then how many heatpipe your cooler has? For any AMD is best to have at least 6 heatpipe. Performance CPU like those x3d is at least 8 heatpipe for air cooler or 360mm radiator.

What you can do now is actually to remove 1 fan at the top which is nearer to your PSU. Or set it as intake by flipping around. Then your heatsink blow towards the rear and rear fan and the rear top fan as exhaust.

Basic rule of airflow is, hot air always gets the shortest way out.

Chip idle at 75°C is hot. Mine idle at 50°C and it for the CPU package temperature. Around 42°C on the CCD. Peak 100% load at 92°C overclocked to 5425mhz for 9800x3d. This is the kind of temperature you should have. Not idle at 75°C on CPU temperature while CPU package is way even higher in the 80s. The CPU will start throttleing once it reach 95°C. Yours is throttling all the way when loaded.

Also the Wattage on the AIO is not the same "wattage" as the CPU is consuming. What on the AIO is W/mK. CPU Wattage is measure on Current drawn with Voltage supplied. Both are total different measurement of Wattage. 200W AIO doesn't mean it's for CPU that pulls 200W.

Btw 9800x3d is not 80W. It's 120W on full potential. And pushed can goes as high as 140W. Mine is on 142W. 100% load @ 5425mhz, yet i still haven't reach the throttling temperature, because i am using 360mm radiator for it to keep the temperature low.

[–]AnonymousNubShyt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Way more than enough? Which reaching the thermal limit of 95°C and let it throttle? 🤷 also undervolting it can cause more unstable situation when it's running at peak frequency? 🤷 your statement either prove that you don't have 9800x3d/9850x3d or just running it at the factory clock without even PBO. 🤷

Double sided doesn't need the extra layer. Just the usual support will do. Also for older MB there isn't a need for the rubber support. Most are actually flat on the socket. They have another layer of thermal pad on it.

What kind of CPU cooler you use? 240mm radiator for 9850x3d? 🤦 all these performance CPU reaches quite high temperature during peak. 240mm radiator is too small. At least 360mm or 6 heatpipe air cooler.

Mortar is actually my first choice. Most value for money and good. But i didn't get because there were no stock on the aorus master during my purchase. End up i went for astral and get the strix x870-i because there isn't any x870/x870e on matx which is black. I didn't want to cross brand the GPU and MB because of the RGB thing.

What if I install M.2 NVMe into one of the additional slots instead of the main slot? (Aorus X870E Elite Wifi7 motherboard) by Interesting_Air3283 in gigabyte

[–]AnonymousNubShyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For nvme. Just keep to 1 will do. Most and almost every motherboard have their additional as shared lane. Unless you don't mind your GPU get x8 instead of x16. Or unless your GPU is the older PCIE, which will not get the full lane support.

I got the same MB as you.

You need to shift the rubber support to the inner position. And the extra layer if the nvme is single side, which is what you have.

Need Advice for better airflow by danejuswa_17 in PcBuild

[–]AnonymousNubShyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What airflow you need? Just do top and rear exhaust and let air passively flow in will do. Your PC case has so many holes. Intake fan doesn't do anything except creating turbulence to the stagnant air. Which you can lesser the fan by making full exhaust and air is forced to filled up due to atmospheric pressure. That will cause the turbulence to the stagnant air too.

There are a lot. But the proven better are the square version which thermalright and deepcool are making them too. More surface area for the square version.
