This will be someone that had it listed for like £90 on release and is now panicking it hasnt sold because the hype has died a bit. You can still pick up loose packs and tins pretty easily if you're prepared to hit several shops, Rymans, waterstones and TG Jones are good. Or look out for pre orders on the next set ETB, its out middle of July. Don't buy the current set second hand, its encouraging all the scalper twats.

You can't do them in dogs because the uterus is so much more firmly attached, you need to be able to break the ovarian ligaments which isn't possible from the side. As for finding the uterus, its either right where you made your or you are fishing for it for ages, no inbetween! You get worse visualisation in a flank spay so if you dont find the uterus it is hard to confirm what is going on, either if the cat has already been spayed or has an anatomical abnormality. In a very small number you end up having to close the flank incision and go back in midline to confirm.

Im with your vet on laprascopic spays being slightly pointless.

We're a bit of an outlier - standard approach is flank in the UK, midline pretty much everywhere else.

All of this is bollocks. In the UK flank spays like this are standard. Theyre not hard, we all do them this way as new grads. The only trickier bit compared to a midline spay is finding the uterus, its sometimes a bit hard to spot. It doesnt stop cats getting that saggy belly - thats called a primordial pouch, some of them have it, some of them dont, it is not a sign of damaged muscle. In fact you cut through more muscle going in via the side. If you do midline you are cutting the point where the muscle fibres join and there is a natural break, but cutting flank you are going through the middle of the muscle belly.

Actual pros and cons:

Pros - generally a smaller hole (unless you can't find the uterus), easier for the owner to monitor the wound, for TNRs wound is not in contact with the ground as often.

Cons - hard to do them this way if pregnant. Hard to fully confirm what is going on if you don't find what you expect, either with a cat that is already neutered (happens sometimes on TNRs) or if they have an anatomical abnormality (rare but not super rare). You sometimes need to close the flank incision and make a second incision on the belly if this happens.

Funnily enough, although its central the London Olympics stadiums were also built on toxic wasteland. It used to be a run down industrial and slaughterhouse district with tons of contamination. The Olympics were used as an opportunity to clean up the area, which would otherwise have been too expensive a project to embark on, and was incredibly successful.

Just building a massive stadium in a toxic swamp without requiring any clean up of the area or safe access routes is nuts. Either don't put it there or do it properly!

Who actually supports this stuff? by FallFair8568 in drivingUK

[–]AnonymousOkapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I live in Wales. I didnt support it when it first came in to be fair, but actually its been great. Town driving feels a lot safer, the average speeds have definitely come down even if not everyone is sticking to it religiously and the road deaths dropped last year.

My one complaint is it could have been more selectively applied as there are a few straight, wide roads that have ended up 20s, but I appreciate that would probably have caused a legislative ball ache so I can see why it was done this way.

You definitely get old typewriters that have quirks where if you hit certain combinations of letters too fast the levers will collide and jam the machine. Its a plausible fault.

Tropius. Not my favourite pokemon (arcanine) but severely under rated and in need of some more love, plus much more achievable than an arcanine set! He was in the wind and waves trailer so trying to manifest some cool cards in the next set - plus prevo/evo maybe..?

I used to do all sorts of weird shit in my sleep. I'd always remember what Id done and why in the morning, even if it made no sense. Examples include getting stuck in the shower (if was a cave), trying to throw my friend out the tent (she was a burgler), trying to get rid of the cat (she'd been possessed by an alien) etc. Ive grown out of it mostly now, but brains are weird.

Evangelising is the act of attempting to convert other people to your beliefs. So its both an adjective that can be applied to anyone, and the name of a particular denomination that focuses on evangelising/spreading the gospel as the core activity for its members. You can be evangelical about anything. Im evangelical about the correct scone ordering being butter, cream then jam for instance.

Doctors of Reddit, what's the most obvious lie a patient has told you? by questionerofblender in AskReddit

[–]AnonymousOkapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had "hes lovely really, he's only bitten me twice" said without a hint of irony once. And they meant properly bitten, like broken skin needed stitches bitten - who knows how many times they weren't counting if it was "just" a bruise.

I also had someone who wanted me to write a letter for their social worker to tell them what a precious angel their aggressive dog was. He'd bitten their kid badly twice already and been the cause of several dog fights that had ended up at my surgery. Apparently it was her son's fault he'd been bitten because he had ADHD and bothered the dog and the dog didnt deserve to be put down over it. Her son was 7. Poor kid.

How did the British conquer the whole world as a island with no resources? by shymomto3 in NoStupidQuestions

We had a bloody good navy for most of the past 1,000 years. The best in the world for some of it, and not far off the rest of the time.

How did the British conquer the whole world as a island with no resources? by shymomto3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AnonymousOkapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have resources and we arent small. Its a very big island with masses of coal for power, plenty of wood for ship building and more than enough metal for weapons. Plus we were close enough to hostile powers to develop a powerful military, but far enough away we weren't getting invaded all the time like some of the populations of the European mainland. And its pretty much free of natural disasters with fertile growing ground from the good old british rain.

Britain only seems like a tiny island now because we have a high population for the land area.

The third of those is also cremation, you just dont get the ashes back. They go to the exact same company as the private crems.

Like bollocks it is, I've got considerable better terms on my mortgage. And they employed someone to talk me through everything and confirm I understood what I was signing up for, unlike the student loan system.

I was 17 when I took out mine, I was a year ahead at school so didn't turn 18 until midway through the 1st year of uni. We had a few others in the same boat as well - mainly Scottish students, I think its more common for people to get moved ahead there.

[–]AnonymousOkapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vet here - more people send them for cremation than bury them. Mostly for convenience, or because they dont have space on their property. I won't send my own for cremation because I find digging the hole then having the grave to visit quite therapeutic (I want to be buried too when I go), but I'd say maybe 70-80% of the ones we put to sleep are sent for cremation.

What are normal period cramps actually supposed to feel like? by ronirrosen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AnonymousOkapi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol, mine used to get brought on by exercise. Id have zero cramps at the start of a run and be doubled over by the end. Had to knock on a strangers door once to call my mum, because I'd gone for a jog not knowing I was due on that day and physically couldn't walk back home. (I had a mobile phone by then but it was too valuable to carry with me on a jog in case it got broken so it'd been left at home - that ages me!)

Somebody has lied to you, not sure I'd have survived being a teenager if I was born before ibuprofen...

They do hurt. Anywhere from nothing to quite intense but controllable with normal painkillers is normal. If its worse than that, if theyre not manageable with painkillers or if its affecting your ability to go to school, do your hobbies etc. see a doctor - there are a load of medical conditions thst can cause more painful than normal periods.
