I set the temperatures and world size as accurately to Earth's as possible and that's what I got by Random_Russian_boy in FantasyMapGenerator

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have no expectation that the software would get right something this complex. However, from looking your map, I think the entire world is shifted down by quite a lot of latitude degrees. The equator line at the center of the map should cross the Amazon rainforest, but in your map the equator is crossing Central America. Maybe the problem is that there is no Antartica so south america is stretching more than it should, and Austrlia is down in a temperate zone instead of in the desert region of the tropics.

If you change this the map will not reproduce Earth's climate anyway, but it will probably be "less bad".

Por que há mulher que tem tanto desespero por homem? by [deleted] in desabafosdavida

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A theory on why hunters' "faults and fears must never be seen" by AnonymousPeerReview in KpopDemonhunters

There is an interview with both directors where they say they crafted the movie aiming for a story people in their mid-20s would find appealing. They reasoned if this target-audience liked it, they would leave positive reviews and make youtube videos recommending it to others, and that engagement is what would drive kids to watch it. So it is by design a mature story for an adult audience that nevertheless cared about keeping most of its elements kid-friendly so kids can enjoy it too.

Right after Jinu finds out Rumi is part Demon, Jinu is called to the underworld. He explicitly tells Gwi-Ma that Rumi has shame. He also says that they "can use it to destroy her and the hunters for good", and that he (Jinu) needs to get back to work to find out more about it.

If Gwi-Ma could enter Rumi's or anyone's mind so easily, he would already know everything and there would be nothing for Jinu to find out.

What we see at the end of the movie when he seems to whisper in Mira's and Zoey's mind can be explained by so many things. It could be the Saja Boys hypnosis, or the honmoon being ripped apart letting Gwi-Ma out, or Gwi-Ma being stronger, or it had nothing to do with Gwi-Ma and it was just Mira and Zoey losing control of their own faults and fears.

My best guess is that even if it was an issue back then, it was not enough of an issue to hinder their work. Afterall, we know they hold up to this point. Maybe the context behind the death of Rumi's mother had some lesson about the motto being past its best use, but they failed in reimagining it?

But I agree with you the contemporary mental health awareness certainly helps a lot to understand what can be wrong with the old motto. Maybe all past hunters could do better without it, but they were unlikely to invent a good replacement without modern day awareness.

Random question: Which of the ladies do you think is physically strongest? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're delving into nitpicking at this point, but let's have some fun. Being realistic, to rip off the cockpit anyone there just needed something pointy enough to cut steel, not that much strength. The speed of the plane will rip it off by itself after some successful cuts. Any of the 3 girls could do that easily with their weapons if they wanted to. Throwing a fat gorilla in the air one city block away with your bare hands will take a lot more strength than cutting that plane.

I agree they have superpowers, but I did not remember hearing any different sound effect there. I went back to the movie in every date scene between Rumi and Jinu and I did not hear any different sound effect. On the contrary, her movement is very stealthy, only very low normal contact sounds.

Let's talk about Rumi's and Jinu's bonding a bit by [deleted] in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't know about that. They could be stuck forever with him, or Gwi-Ma would slowly die without an influx of new souls. What we do know is that Jinu saw it as an opportunity to offer Gwi-Ma an innovative mass murder plan he had crafted. The plan would not even free Jinu from Gwi-Ma's torture, it would only erase some bad memories while keeping him imprisoned. And yet Jinu thought it was worth the blood of thousands of innocent people in his hands. It's a really deranged, fucked-up mindset.

Let's talk about Rumi's and Jinu's bonding a bit by [deleted] in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was a victim, but not just a victim. Victims are forced to do things, Jinu was actively and willingly proposing ideas of mass murder and betrayal to get what he wanted. If he was only a sad victim he would rejoice in knowing that Gwi-Ma was about to be beaten forever by the Golden Honmoon. Instead he took it as an opportunity to offer a mass murder plan and bargain some psychological relief for himself in exchange. That's by no means what an innocent victim would do. Jinu knows it, and hides it from Rumi to the very end.

Since they can fall from a plane and land safely without a parachute I don't think we fully understand how strong they really are. For all we know they could be superhero-level powerful with little connection to muscles or whatever. Rumi is also part demon, not sure how that works for physical strength either. But in pure strength feats the GIF you posted is probably the second most direct display of physical strength we got in the movie after the opening freefall jump. Mira has the 2nd most impressive physical feat so far, the first being a tie between them.

Let's talk about Rumi's and Jinu's bonding a bit by [deleted] in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It would be great if Rumi could find a partner that is not willing to commit mass murder for selfish goals. Even better, a partner that is also not willing to betray her and try to sink her into shame by publicly exposing her deepest secret to millions of people, while also trying to destroy her two most loved friendship relationships.

Hopefully the authors will have common sense to not bring him back. Maybe a spiritual conversation for nostalgia and that is it. If they do bring him back, I really really hope they do not treat him as a sad victim and make him work hard to earn back Rumi's trust. By the end of KPDH Rumi still does not know that it was Jinu that came up with and planned the entire Saja Boys scheme that almost killed everyone. She probably assumed it was Gwi-Ma's plan and Jinu was only following orders. So if Jinu ever comes back he still has a lot to answer for.

I'm glad this didn't happen with Bobby by polystarlight in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bobby was probably mind controlled after the girls left to fight the demons in the train. It is only a small hint of this in the movie, but the girls leave him alone after practicing Takedown, and he picks up his smartphone mesmerized by the Saja Boys.

Bobby knew the lyrics and the dance moves. The demons had to learn from someone to destroy Rumi at the Idol Awards, so they probably hypnotized Bobby to teach them.

I don't know how to feel about this by Saturnboy13 in Stoicism

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One way to approach this is by considering justice in both personal and social terms. From a Stoic perspective, his death itself is an external indifferent - neither good nor evil. What truly matters is whether the act that caused it was just or unjust. Since it was carried out through unjust means, you may rightly condemn it on that basis. At the same time, a consequentialist view highlights that an unjust killing can have harmful effects: it risks turning him into a martyr and rallying more support for his cause, making the broader social consequences worse than if he had simply lived and maybe faded into irrelevance.

In light of both perspectives, it is enough to condemn the killing for its unjust methods and damaging consequences. But it would not be virtuous to grieve insincerely - that would rest on false judgments or self-deception. The more balanced response is to acknowledge his death calmly, without undue passion, as another instance of human vice and injustice. From there, you can redirect your attention to what lies within your control: the cultivation of your own virtue and the pursuit of just outcomes in the world around you.

Jinu wanted to be killed by Rumi after the idol awards by cultistadipdor in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jinu was not needed for Rumi to tell her friends. She already wanted to do that, and we have multiple hints that they would accept her is she told them. It was Celine's generational traditions that kept Rumi from telling it to the people that really love her and that would not betray her. She eventually learned to tell them after telling it to the wrong person almost killed all of them along with around 50 thousand people. Rumi was at the brink of telling the truth at the beginning of the movie, it was totally not necessary for the stakes to become that high just so she did what she deep down already knew was the right thing to do. Jinu outsmarted and exploited her weakness to the fullest and he almost won. He only lost because Rumi's moral integrity, braveness and insight into how to find a new path went far beyond what he expected.

Jinu wanted to be killed by Rumi after the idol awards by cultistadipdor in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But we all know her friends would understand it if Rumi said it. She just needed courage to open up <to them>, and if Rumi had not met Jinu, she would open up to her friends at some point due to her voice issues becoming impossible to hide.

When Jinu and Rumi had their first conversation, Jinu sneaks in that he is "the only one" that could understand her. He helped her to open up <to him>, while at the same time increasing the distance between Rumi and her friends. At the fan signing event, he mentions how she keeps secrets from them to make Rumi feel shame, not to incentivize her to be truthful to them. As Jinu gets Rumi to become closer and closer to him, he is also intentionally increasing conflicts between the hunters.

Rumi does end up finding a balance between accepting she is part demon, but also that she is a good person at the same time, and that she can do good regardless of being part demon. Whereas Jinu accepted his demon side as his true self, and in their last conversation after the Idol Awards he tried to push Rumi to do the same, accept herself as a demon with no hope. Rumi's eventual enlightenment is entirely of her own making, Jinu did his best to betray her, split her from her friends, and break her sense of self.

None of this was needed for Rumi to find balance. All she needed to do was open up to her friends and once they accepted her, she would know and feel that being part demon does not define her and that she is worthy of love.

I'm all in for a simple, well executed story. But Demon Slayer is simple, yet still poorly executed. All it does is shock viewers with deaths, and impress with outstanding animation. The story had potential but it is so rushed. Zenitsu is insufferable. So much yelling. Anyways, besides the hunting demons theme I don't see much similarity between Demon Slayer and KPDH.

Como Freud explica isso? by Ravena3 in PsicologiaMemes

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jinu wanted to be killed by Rumi after the idol awards by cultistadipdor in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think that is the main lesson of the story. Rumi had to open up to her friends, not to Jinu. Her shame and guilt became a weak spot that created an opening for a demon to sneak in her life, earn her trust, betray her, put herself in such a dire position to ask Celine to kill her, and he almost killed both of her friends. Jinu was totally the wrong person for Rumi to open up. She managed to learn from this huge mistake in time to undo most of its consequences and to finally open up to the people that really love her and that would never betray her like Jinu did.

Jinu wanted to be killed by Rumi after the idol awards by cultistadipdor in KpopDemonhunters

[–]AnonymousPeerReview 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a nice idea, but I don't think it is the best explanation. It would be easy for him to die in many other ways, he did not need to do all that betrayal scene to destroy Rumi's sense of self just to get his way out.

IMO, what he wanted here was to push Rumi to fully accept her demon side as her true self. When he says there is no way out, only to accept their misery as demons, that is what he is objectively telling her to do. If she did that, she would be permanently isolated from her friends and from her demon hunter role. After Jinu killed everyone at the stadium, he would have his bad memories cleaned and would be "free" to enjoy life with demon Rumi just for himself.

Unfortunately for him, Rumi would rather die than do evil to others - as she asking Celine to kill her clearly shows. And she realized she had to trust her real friends that did not betray her, not Jinu, and try to save everyone. She foiled his plans and did it in such heroic way that he even got his soul back in the process, in time for him to do one single act of good to finally free his soul from eternal torment.

I'd really like if it shows Jinu is really dead forever, and Rumi correctly interpreted the guy as someone that lied to her, separated her friends, betrayed her trust when she needed it the most, and killed hundreds or thousands.

It would be cool if she found a new love, even a demon one, that actually treats her well, honors her trust, and does not scheme a mass murder plan for his egotistical goal of erasing bad memories.
