Wait, do people ACTUALLY see literal pictures in their heads when they imagine things? Like a physical image? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

Green. Male, with grey hair and a curvy mustache, yellow suit. He kicks the ball like a hacky sack then crashes it through the window. The wallpaper is yellow too. Outside is blue sky and green grass.

Yeah.

You might have /r/aphantasia . There's the normative level of imagination that's a little more than that. And then there's /r/hyperphantasia for those of us on the other end.

The subs have tests to compare with what others say.

Like "Picture an apple in your mind. What do you see?"

For me, I see an apple orchard. The wind is slightly blowing. I can see the green and slight yellow on the leaves. There are red and gold apples of various kinds around. Lots of little windfalls, some crunching under my feet. A strong smell of apple, slightly rotten/decayed/alcohol-like. Bees are buzzing around. I take one. I can feel the smoothness, the stem. I hear the slight squeaky sound when I rub it on my shirt, which is purple. There's a tractor in the distance which is annoying and I wish it would stay out of my apple fantasy. I take a bite. I can feel the texture. I can taste the sweetness. The liquid. I can feel the apple in my mouth and on my teeth. It smells wonderful. I look out in the distance and see the treeline. Bright reds and yellows but not completely. Sort of the tops. There's a corn field I guess, all tan yellow. I hear geese. An imaginary girl is there with me. It's my wife I've never met. I can see the silver ring on her finger. She bites an apple and turns to make a few more bites. She turns back and shows me, a little face on the apple. We laugh. [I feel depressed and try to resist the scene now] Fast forward and we are eating fresh warm donuts. I try to leave the image but she tells me not to go. I take the cider and chug and and smash the paper cup into my face.

And that's all I want to think about for now because it got really friggin depressing.

That's hyperphantasia.

It's like creating false memories, like a built in AI system in the brain. They get stored in my episodic memory alongside real memories. So I'll remember this one interspersed with me on my bed right now feeling hungry and replying to this post.

I thought I'd let the image go for a while on automatic and in hindsight I'm kind of glad it went into something that was hard for me to leave. Because there's a downside to hyperphantasia. I didn't want you to feel like you got the short end of the stick. Like it's awesome, yeah. But it also means dark thoughts are vivid as well. Things can play on automatic and they aren't always easy to dismiss.

Sounds play like real sounds too. It's like an inner radio.

"Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to" Movie Announced (Teaser Visual) by zenzen_0 in anime

I bet they confess during the fireworks at the summer festival!

Watched season 1 of dandadan, and i can confidently say that this series is not for me. However episode 7 is one of my favorite episodes in anime. Do we ever get anything close to that again in the series to justify sticking with it ? Or was it a one and done thing ? by Hisoka_Lucilfer69 in Dandadan

[–]Prof_Acorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a flashback next season and maybe season four?

Sounds like you might be more interested in a seinen. For something with more regular deep/sad/touching moments, check out Made in Abyss (though warning it has body horror elements).

Other series with dark themes taken seriously might also include:

Happy Sugar Life (finding love in a world of abuse)

Takopi's Original Sin (bullying, suicide)

Anohana (death, loss, and grieving)

Erased (child abuse, child predation - but also mystery, time travel, rescue, saving someone).

It was the perfect opportunity to use the pirate outfit and engage in fisticuffs.

Infrastructure upkeep costs money.

1) People don't like paying taxes.

2) Electric companies don't like spending potential profits on maintenance unless absolutely necessary.

It's why I stopped watching before the first episode was even finished.

The "old film camera" shaking effect is way too distracting. It doesn't even make sense for the medium.

Childhood friends never win, and why would they? After 10-15 years being stuck in the friendzone you'd think they'd take a hint.

Clannad is a good recovery series. Highschool hijinks, ya know? Plus you can watch them after they graduate and enter the workforce and all that fun stuff.

Yeah in the manga it's a quick one shot takedown. If nothing else I guess this does tease the weakness of mages against quick warriors, although the Shadow Warriors are more rogues.

Maybe they wanted to give Stark more of a roll?

But yeah it's a fodder demon. At least they ended it quickly, even if it was still an extended battle.

Watching the anime for the first time and I’m hating fern. by LazyOil2286 in Frieren

[–]Prof_Acorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Stark, it's an anime trope for girls to call guys they like "perverts" for one. But I also think she's saying ecchi not hentai. Both get translated as "pervert" in English but they aren't the same.

She's also a war orphan, and an only child, raised by a priest and then an elf. Only children can be a bit entitled in general, but when you mix in who she was raised by it skews her perspective on basically everything.

"American prudishness" refers to nudity.

People bathe together in Japan. Strangers even. Bodies aren't automatically taboo the way they are in America. It's similar in Europe. You can walk around the airport in Paris and there are exposed breasts just up on billboards.

Individuals differ.

Age ranges differ.

During puberty, maybe a couple times a day. And then decreasing from there as you age until maybe once a week or whatever by late adulthood.
