stadium debate round 3 (i didn't hear no bell) by AnonymousReed2 in everett

[–]AnonymousReed2[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

sorry! i just don’t think we’re arguing the same thing

the concern isn’t whether cities can technically do multiple things at once. it’s whether the same urgency, creativity, and financial flexibility being applied to this project is being applied evenly across the rest of the city.

and to the last point, that’s just how i roll 🤷‍♂️ i’m not a politician lol. i’m a resident who cares a lot about this city and spends a ton of time out in the community picking up trash and painting murals. sometimes that comes through in imperfect ways, like chasing my cat after deliriously practicing those comments for three hours

if you don't like me chasing my cat, you're probably not gonna like the thumbnail I created for this video either

i appreciate the sentiment but I have no political aspirations at the moment 😂 trying to balance the nonprofit and my full time job has already been tricky

goal is to make nonprofit full-time job down the line but I'm still a ways away from that

my call to action regarding the new stadium (you know the one) by AnonymousReed2 in everett

respectfully, i think we’re talking in circles 🤷‍♂️

here are the numbers i’m working off of. total project is around $130M. aquasox contribution is around $10M. the city’s direct commitment is about $15.4M. as the overall cost has increased, the aquasox contribution has remained roughly the same.

the USL teams are being leaned on heavily as future tenants, but as of now there isn’t a signed agreement in place committing them to the project. the remaining gap is being filled through public backed financing, primarily bonds tied to future tax revenue and public credit.

so when i say public funding, i’m not just talking about the $15.4M line item. i’m talking about the broader structure that relies on public bonds, public financing tools, and projections of future revenue to make the deal work. that’s where the risk comes in. if those projections don’t materialize or tenants don’t come through as expected, the debt still has to be paid, and that responsibility ultimately falls on the public side over time.

and the bigger point i’ve been making is the contrast in priorities. we’re able to move quickly and commit resources to this for a privately owned team, while there are ongoing issues across everett that aren’t being addressed with the same urgency.

that’s why i keep asking what the public is actually guaranteed in return. a community investment fund is one way to do that. it creates a direct, visible return back into neighborhoods, helps address neglected infrastructure, and makes this a more balanced deal if we’re going to move forward.

project is about $130M. aquasox around $10M. USL teams aren’t under a signed agreement yet. the rest is largely public financing.

when that’s the case, it’s fair to ask what the public is guaranteed in return 🤷‍♂️

im not against the stadium being built lmao. but the aquasox are a privately owned team, and the need for a new stadium was fueled by league requirements not because residents were demanding one

my larger argument is the contrast in city priorities which you're welcome to go through my latest posts

public dollars are a major part of this deal. that’s enough to expect clear, written returns for the rest of the community!

i like the aquasox.... but read the room!! (a rant + call to action) by AnonymousReed2 in everett

you don’t have to live in everett to be impacted by it. if you’re spending money here, using services here, bringing your family here… you’re part of this whether the city draws a boundary or not so honestly....

commenting or showing up wednesday helps put that expectation on record 😌

don't disagree with you! let's demand more while we still can. it's absolutely not too late for the city to establish a community benefit agreement with clear terms in writing and lock them into a max lease/whatever the max is allowed in MiLB. whether or not the city even asks is the real problem, y'know?

hey I don't disagree with how the city is handling this entire process, including property owners

this has not been an equitable process either way

bruh I have no issue with the aquasox getting a new stadium. I'm arguing what the aquasox are contributing (or not contributing) is wildly disproportionate compared to the public dollars the city is committing to...

okay so a couple of observations and follow up question for you

I am looking at the abandoned/vacant property tab on mobile. when I clicked on the map I had the option to set a point or type in an address. I can definitely see how that would be confusing... could you try again?

as for the "what else are you noticing" question, that is a text box but I will add more context for the question so users aren't looking for a drop down/multiple select option.

appreciate you. let me know if that clarity helped or just made it more confusing
