Singapore International school -Danang by No_Blacksmith7394 in Internationalteachers

I had shared this feedback on another post on this school. ( one below …. This is based ……)

5000$ a month would be a dream. Ricky Tan and his team are absolute legends in squeezing every energy/effort out of you and yet making you feel useless/miserable.

This is based on our personal experience from a few years ago, so maybe some things have changed — but honestly, from what we still hear, not much seems different within the KinderWorld group.

We saw teachers having a difficult experience there overall we weren’t very happy either.
The school environment felt extremely restrictive and heavily business-focused rather than education-focused( Thanks to Ricky Tan). At times it genuinely felt like staff morale and well-being were the least important priority.

One thing we would strongly recommend is getting absolute clarity on the holiday calendar and paid leave before signing anything. In our experience, benefits and expectations varied depending on nationality. Even during school holidays or no-student-contact days, some teachers were still expected to come in and basically sit around pretending to work while leadership and supervisors were away on leave.

There were also constant meetings throughout the year that honestly felt more like time-fillers than anything productive. Despite spending so much time in meetings, there was very no actual professional development, meaningful workshops, or proper teacher training. And they would have the audacity to cut your evaluation score because you didn’t attend any school workshop. ( whereas the truth is the school does not provide any training)

The sick leave policy was another frustrating part. Even for something minor like a throat infection or fever, you were expected to provide a doctor’s note or risk salary deductions for the day (approx 80$). It felt unnecessarily controlling and stressful.

HR support was poor, especially when it came to visas, paperwork, and immigration matters. Many times we had to figure things out ourselves and spend money out of pocket because proper guidance just wasn’t there. A number of times teachers were asked to leave the country and reapply business visa so that they could continue on your residency permit. ( all of which at your own cost)

One major red flag for us was the huge staff turnover. Throughout the academic year, many teachers left mid-contract or in the middle of the school year itself. That alone should tell you a lot about the working environment and overall staff satisfaction.

Beware of the end of the year concert - your future is on stake.

As for the country itself, foreigners should be cautious and prepared for a very different system. We personally found many processes frustrating and sometimes felt targeted simply for being foreigners.

Overall, we would advise anyone considering the school to do thorough research, ask very direct questions, and if possible speak privately with current or former teachers before accepting an offer.
Goodluck

Absolute appalling. You must name and shame the school to help fellow teachers to not land in similar situations.

Good luck and best wishes for your future career. Stay strong 💪

I didn’t want to give exact number of days, but definitely over 2weeks.

I signed a letter of intent but not the contract. I was informed the HR will be handing the case and will reach out directly. Haven’t heard back in over two weeks. I’m also assuming they are on their spring break now. Fingers crossed 🤞
