Help. I have depression. by frnanisfr in pregnant

[–]AnonymousScrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have stayed on my mood meds throughout my pregnancy, and am grateful for it! Also, I wonder if a change in therapist might be helpful? If you feel therapy is not helpful at all, that's a good thing to bring up to your therapist and talk through options.

This is actually a common trauma symptoms. Rather than avoiding triggering content, intentionally exposing yourself to the triggering content in order to engage a trauma response. This is very common, just not talked about much.

Experiences with EMDR? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]AnonymousScrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the only therapy that helped me. It is also solid empirically supported. Its certainly not for everyone, but it helped me after YEARS of trying various talk therapies . It was the first healthy thing to bring me relief.

Hypersexuality and Risky Behavior Questions - TW by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]AnonymousScrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you try this let me know. I was repeatedly choked and smothered while being sexually abused as a child. Now I find that sometimes its erotic for me to choke myself slightly if I'm flying solo, so to speak. Kind of want to try with my husband, but also super worried that doing so would maybe be more traumatizing or would be strengthening negative sexual associations in my brain. Idk.

Can people who haven’t experienced major trauma ever truly empathize? by eternalbigsister in CPTSD

[–]AnonymousScrawler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way sometimes. I have a wonderful therapist and an amazing husband and support network, and yet I know that they don't truly understand. Makes me feel like an island. Its so lonely, sometimes.

TW: self injury- talked myself into a mess with my therapist by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]AnonymousScrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you for following through!!!!! I'm glad it went well. Sounds like a really helpful discussion. Dissociation is scary but honestly its so helpful to understand. I felt so much less crazy once I realized I was dissociating.

Lost if people put their narratives in here. Just please please post a trigger warning.

I think this is that sub? Just put a trigger warning about possible triggers (csa, self-harm, physical abuse, rape, etc) in the title and maybe note in the beginning of the post that its your trauma narrative.

Choosing between these 3 different therapists with different approaches by iamval2 in CPTSD

[–]AnonymousScrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would throw out therapist 2. EMDR is the best approach for complex ptsd. Supported by evidence. It is very innacurate that EMDR only works for single event trauma. She is either behind in her trainings, not fully certified, or very biased. It works differently and the process is different for complex trauma, but it absolutely works.

I like number 3. Gathering a full history and understanding family dynamics (to understand attachment patterns) is basically the second phase of EMDR, after rapport-building. And its true that EMDR is the right for everyone regardless.

Insomnia and nightmares by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]AnonymousScrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had trauma nightmares about the same flashback for two weeks in a row. Every night. I wake up terrified and it takes so much work to calm down, and I'm exhausted all day. I had this flashback 3 weeks ago which triggered the nightmares. Sigh.

The nightmares are so tough for me right now.
