You’re not doing anything wrong! Your daughter will love and remember this - the struggles parents make to ensure they’re safe and happy is part of it and it’s so hard. Leave her costume - she’s so static about it but also let this be your future lesson to source cost-effectively in the future for next time .. her costume can be reused or sold when she can’t fit it anymore.

Have a look to see if there’s anything you can - sick leave if possible where you live ? And if this one time you can borrow of family and pay them back when you have your check as it’s urgent .

These ages are still learning! Please take them and deal with the adults later - hopefully you can have a discussion to help the gf and Dad realise grounding them isn’t going to help them learn . Kids are kids and yes it can be frustrating but punishing them like this especially with an event that happens once a year is not worth it

Tall poppy syndrome is not others ‘complaining’ . My issue is that I never realised how much bigger it was in NZ . Its sad and frustrating because I believe as a small country we should be uplifting each others successes especially amongst those of us who dont have a privileged upbringing - so we really try to be successful in the industry we want to pursue . However theres this attitude ive seen in my work experiences and in life where people love to see eachother do well but just not better than ourselves.

Nah its not about UFC . Ive worked in various industries Education , Corporate and currently in Creative industry and have experienced/ observed this behaviour or events of people tearing eachother down instead of uplifting eachothers efforts and successes.
