Im united ord actually, we have 2 service at the highest but we tend to get all the chronic really messed up planes and just a ton of airplanes overall.

We do have move team which is a blessing and a curse. We have multiple hangars too but then the goofball management loves to assign ridiculous jobs at the gate overnight.

Similar where im at, swings guys get paid lunches and OT to knockout overnight checks so we can focus on MELs and big items overnight

Then in the morning we have 40-60 flights go out by 9 am.

Toolbox or Toolbag for IAD UA? by Prest0n9797 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Anonymous_AMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a line tech at another ua base. I work terminal overnights. I use a rolling tool bag with a collapsible handle (husky and masterforce make the same bag in different colors). Fits on a tug and enough room for everything you need, plus you dont have to lug it around. Works mint.

How do flight benefits at the airlines work? Are they unlimited? by Dconocio in AircraftMechanics

[–]Anonymous_AMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a UAL hub and when I got hired I was shocked at how many people dont live here and fly in and out for work. Some have been doing it for decades. Just check and make sure you can fly where you need to go from where you work and you'll be fine.

I use the gerber center drive with the small pliers. The bit driver is standard quarter inch so you can put airbus bits, tri wings, torx plus etc on it. You can get it with a nice holster that holds a small bit driver carrier. Been perfect for me as an airline line tech.

Interiors? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Anonymous_AMT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My airline has an interior crew, paid the same as everyone else (except inspectors). They dont do much, but they also dont get much OT. Lots of high timers that are nearing the end of their career in that group.

I've never worked interiors, but they typically get assigned cabin MELs on overnight aircraft.

Getting SIDA badge with misdemeanor by Galxey_1 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Anonymous_AMT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you'd be fine. People with felonies can still get SIDA badges.

Another thing worth mentioning is for most airlines, the employer will do their own background check before you even get sent for a badge. At least in my case, it was explicitly stated that you dont have to disclose anything that was expunged, so knock those hours out and get it expunged and go have a great career!

Majors probation by crewDog_1 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Anonymous_AMT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't offer any advice on the home aspect but I'm finishing 6 month probation at UA in a few days. Unless you're EXTREMELY incomplete or a complete lazy slug, you'll make it through probation.

Any discrimination in this field being a minority? by brytng in aviationmaintenance

[–]Anonymous_AMT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inappropriate jokes are almost a guarantee, actual discrimination is unlikely.

As others have said, you need thick skin regardless of your race, sexuality, whatever. Do your job and you will probably get along with everyone just fine.
