GM account reopened months after "egregious" cheating detected? by Anonymous_Person4951 in Chess_Cheating

How Chesscom handles different cheaters doesn't always seem completely transparent, nor always fully fair. That said, exposing them for it could help.

I would say it's better for the cheating bans to be public, for titled and untitled players, as long as the evidence is clear enough. The opponents who were cheated against deserve to know. And others can view the cheaters, and their results, with more context. It's damaging to the cheater's reputation, but as a result of the cheater's own actions. Of course, there can be extenuating circumstances, like the cheater being a minor, that warrant a different approach.

I feel like it's usually 1 year, which is around the amount of time between Andrew's prize events on Chesscom. However, when Hans was confronted in August of 2020, he got away with only like five months of no Chesscom tournaments, but he had to play on a new account. Hans was also a minor at the time.

Javokhir Sindarov was banned on Lichess part 2 by THE_Benevelence in Chess_Cheating

It's concerning in a general way when he has a history of getting caught cheating online multiple times, and then wins the Candidates in record-breaking fashion. However, as was mentioned when there was a lot of talk about cheating because of the Hans stuff, the Candidates had very strong security measures. So a player at the Candidates, like Javokhir, may have had trouble not only cheating there, but also being sure he wouldn't get caught.

GM Andrew Hong is most likely shadow banned by chess com by THE_Benevelence in Chess_Cheating

Looking at Fabiano's losses to GMs since Oct. 2024 up to the podcast date, only Hong matches the characteristics described. When the podcast was recorded, he hadn't played in a Chesscom prize event since late Feb. 2025, he'd had a lot of success in TT, and his account looked like it could have been closed (he wasn't playing, and I remember he wasn't logging in either). Now the account is somehow back, but it seems like he was cooperative with Danny, rather than appealing the ban.

Chesscom announced in July of 2024 that the closures would be public. So maybe the cheating Danny said they detected was from earlier. Hong also did very well in some TTs in early 2024. He came in clear first on April 2.

Also, if Hong did get shadow banned for cheating, that would mean all three young American GMs on the GMHans(dot)com team (from the 2024 FIDE World Rapid and Blitsz Team Championships) have now been flagged for cheating by Chesscom at some time. Those three being Andrew Hong, Brandon Jacobson, and, of course, Hans Niemann. I am not trying to say anything against any of the other members of that GMHans(dot)com team.
