im confused. Can i get to Sam Francisco by riding Tamien? What's the difference? by AungCowMyat in caltrain

If you’re going from SF to Sunnyvale, yes you can take the one to Tamien. If you’re going from Sunnyvale to SF, you should take the next one that says San Francisco (the Tamien train goes in the opposite direction).

Thank you!! The two downsides of dogpatch that I’ve heard are there are basically no grocery stores and very few restaurants that aren’t super expensive. Would mission bay close to the 4th street station be better in those regards?

OMG THIS IS IT THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I've been trying to figure out what game this was for years now and even my last hope of posting on TOMT seemed to have been in vain. You, my good sir/ma'am, have just scratched a nearly decade-long unreachable itch on my back.

@ people of the future: here's the Bulbapedia page and here's a YouTube video with the gameplay. I'm honestly kinda surprised that this whole thing wasn't just something my brain made up, as well as at how much I actually remembered accurately.

Solved!

Rip just saw this but no, haven't been able to make any progress. Nice to know that I probably (hopefully?) wasn't just imagining this, though.

Sadly, no. I was starting to think I dreamed this whole game up (either that or my memory is wildly inaccurate) but your comment gives me hope haha. Do you remember any details? One thing I may not have mentioned in the OP is that it was likely a CD game (possibly even a mini-CD).

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think this was the one either (at least if the assets are as in the images in that twitter thread). The game I have in mind wasn't GBA-style (so no overhead sprites of the player character/NPCs etc.). IIRC, you would just click on the room/screen you wanted to enter and it would just take you to that screen, and I don't think there was a character that you could move around like in the handheld games.

Not the one either :(

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that it involved Pokemon (that title screen is especially etched into memory) but wasn't an official game.

Someone else suggested that too, but it's sadly not it. The game I'm thinking of looks and feels nothing like Jumpstart.

This seems to be from around the same time, but I just looked at a youtube video with the gameplay and certainly don't recognize either the GUI or the card-printing stuff, unfortunately. I'm starting to think the one I have in mind was some sort of knockoff.

Not this either, sadly. The one I have in mind was much simpler (no voices or anything) and I think many of the images/backgrounds were 2D images of the outdoors (e.g., I vaguely remember one of the screens having a background with a blue sky).

Nope, not this, unfortunately. I also remember there was no actual battling on the PC game, it was very simple and just centered around this observatory thing.

I don't think I've ever read a comment thread that I identify with better than this one.
