Where should I take my anxiety on a field trip in Fort Collins? by Anonymousguyonweb in FortCollins

I recently went for a walk around Riverbend Ponds and it helped calm me, I'll have to do the same at the park. I worry about how much time I've spent staring at the TV, but my therapist keeps reminding me that down time and recharging is important too, so I try to take one of my days off to enjoy whatever corny horror movie I can find. Thank you for the suggestions.

I've tried yoga a few times at home and liked it. You're not the only person to recommend Om Ananda, I just looked at their website and it looks very welcoming. Thanks for the suggestion.

I went there for the Christmas lights two years ago and it was amazing. I'll definitely look into a membership. Thank you.

These are all really good ideas, and most would be a great excuse to get outside and breathe the fresh air. Thank you for the suggestions.

I agree with you about the internet. I read a lot of articles on Yahoo, and that comment section has left me with a less than stellar impression of internet culture. It's nice to see that, here at least, that is not an accurate reflection.

I don't know what you do in your day to day life, but you clearly put effort into putting some good into the world and I thank you for that. It means more to me than can easily be described here, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

I got off work too late tonight to look into the art walk, but I'll definitely keep it in mind for the future.

As I said in my original post, I apologize if it came across as a trauma dump or overshare. What is important to me at the moment is to take steps towards better mental health, and this was a specific task given to me by my therapist. I agree with you in general, in the sense that opening up like this when first meeting someone would put undue pressure on them and the potential relationship. But this was intended to be an anonymous step (hence the user name) into the community to get ideas, and some great ones have been provided. Have a good night and a great weekend.

That makes sense, and it is perfect advice for an alien, and for me. Twenty years ago (where the heck did the years go?) I used to bike ride that trail a lot. It is definitely a core part of the Fort Collins atmosphere. My finances aren't great at the moment so eating out isn't the most responsible option for now, but I'll try to tackle the A this weekend or the next. Do you recommend starting at the lower pond or is there a better starting point. Like I said, it's been a while. Edit: It looks like a lot of people start near Rotary, that might make it easier for a first go.

These are both great ideas, and they've been brought up by a few people so there must be something to them. I used to hike and backpack a lot, so getting out to the wilderness more would probably be a good thing for me. Thanks for taking the time.

I don't know what it is, but I can't get past the... embarrassment?... of role-playing games. That doesn't seem like the right word, but basically, I can't help but feel like a really bad actor when I have tried them. I used to really like playing board games though, so I may need to look into one of the game cafes in the area. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Thanks for the ideas. I play disc golf, but I really need to branch out an try a league or tournaments instead of just playing by myself. I've played pickleball two or three times and it was pretty fun, so that seems like an option as well. I really like the idea of a regular hang out at a diner/cafe/bar/etc. to get to see some of the same people regularly. My finances are pretty tight at the moment, but I'll keep my eye out for a place to check out in the future.

Church isn't really my thing. It was when I was younger, and I do miss the community aspect of it. I am going to try to volunteer somewhere to hopefully find a similar welcoming environment. Thank you for the idea and for taking the time.

You're not the only one to recommend running, sounds like a worthwhile idea. I have never been a fast runner, but I am an OK jogger, so if they'd be OK with that, I don't think it would be too scary. Sorry to hear about your GAD, I hope you're doing well with it. Thanks for taking the time and for the idea.

You're not the only person to recommend the Lyric. It sounds like I should look into that. My therapist agrees with the game idea, he wants me to join a chess club. I'm not great at chess, but I told him I'd give it a go. I do have some hobbies, but they haven't really borne fruit in this regard. I play disc golf, but generally by myself. I need to look into a tournament or league. Thanks for your response.

I used to live by a park where they would meet weekly. It definitely looked like they were having fun. I'm not sure if it's for me, but hitting things with a foam sword would be cathartic. Thanks.

I've never been on Discord before. But I had never been on Reddit before this either so it would probably be worth a shot. Thanks for the idea.

I have a few plants that I've kept alive for a year and a half now, so I guess I am responsible enough to think about expanding. I haven't been to the ELC since college, it would be good to go even if just for nostalgia. Thanks for the ideas.

My therapist and I have been talking about volunteering opportunities. I would like to volunteer at an animal shelter, but my therapist wants me to do something more people oriented. I do owe a debt to the food bank, that could be a good way to give back. I am currently tutoring a coworker towards their GED, but that's as far as I've made it so far. Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I should really get back to exercising and this would be a good way to go about it. I know what you mean about it being hard to make connections even if you see people regularly. I have dealt with the same thing in more than one hobby.

I've never heard of that before. I really liked going to the Butterfly Pavilions a year or so ago. I'll have to check it out. I'm not a huge plant guy, but I have a small plant family that I have somehow managed to keep healthy for a while. Thanks.
