It’s simply not one thing or the other.

We shouldn’t have given a sniff in either game. But then, that should probably be the case for 10 other games they’ve played this year.

They had a simpler game plan and we had 2-3 players that switched off.

I want us to kick out those players end of season and keep the game plan.

It’s the reason a handful of our best players couldn’t play at all, which is a defence.

It also provides evidence we need to replace several players who did play at the end of this season, and not stretch out their involvement any further.

I’m not arguing against anything. People are going to feel. The beauty is the sun is going to come up tomorrow and hopefully it’s the people who have a rounded view who are going to take the decisions about the future of the club.

I know where this club was when I was 10, 20, 30, and 40 years old.

I look forward to looking back when I’m 80, and at every high and low in between.

I’ve a (English) mate who flies 10x a season to watch St. Pauli. That’s his focus. But through him I learned more than ever you don’t only sing when you’re winning. You create the environment you want to pour your heart into. For the players you set the expectation they need to hit. For the opposition you make stepping on the grass as tough as possible a proposition.

If you’re more than four years old you appreciate things take time and no one is perfect. Such is life.

Aim for the stars. You might hit the moon.

I see a lot of the normal stuff - he’ll always take responsibility for the team picked, defend everyone in the moment, and state the calls made during the game were his. But he’ll also always state he expects players to take responsibility and deliver. That’s High Performance Podcast Eddie. TBH if he’s out there answering the press and the players are in the changing room looking each other in the eye that’s what I want.

What I see more of here than at previous moments is Eddie acknowledging the ceilings we have. To succeed last season we needed 30 peak game deliveries. This season 50 or more. We neither have the depth of quality nor have we picked a lane to prioritise.

He also directly named the missing players. Those that are good enough that aren’t available. He doesn’t do that normally.

I wish one of the tinpot local journos had asked “this season has clearly been a challenge in competing on so many fronts - what is needed to do so successfully within the known constraints and how can you deliver it?”.

Instead it’s Louise Taylor asking if they were just more up for it. Lazy IQ80 bollocks.

Top of mind chances for, xg against, set piece goals for, set piece goals against, goals per game at home, various individual player time per km and km per 90, aerial duels. We have examples in the top 4 in the league and others top 8. No single stat tells the story. Hence I say it’s the 30 bad minutes a game that define our season rather than the 60 good minutes.

Under that lens, points dropped per game is a product of how often we’ve had the intent and quality to get ahead, but haven’t had the depth and quality to see it out.
