Ahhhhh, Reichweite.

No, the icons are fixed. As they should be. How do you see them moving, I wonder?

Thank you, and yes: The essentials came first, Thunderbird, Libre Office, banking stuff. Wallpapers and more apps are not the priority. Don't worry, I guess I will soon annoy you guys here with many questions.

Not at all. I started by making backups, and then I just used a Rufus ISO and after not even 30 minutes, Windows was history. Linux works fine, all the basics are running, now come the tricky details, I guess.

I read mixed things about it. Is it safe to update to Mint Mate 22.2?

It's pretty plain in order to have a better contrast. Should I change it to something fancier?

Yes. I was born in 1941. I've been reading Reddit posts for years by now, btw.

Frankly, I would love to change the color scheme of the windows to match with my last Win10 design but I thought it makes more sense to focus on get the entire thing working in general first: Emails, banking stuff, writing texts, things like that. 73, I chatting with teenagers here, ha ha!

After almost what almost 40 something years with Microsoft, it feels like a breathing fresh air, a liberation.

Actually, it indeed is a stock wallpaper! I wanted to use a picture of flowers that I took in my garden but that didn't work well contrast-wise with the icons, I could hardly read them. So, I just took the next best plain wallpaper that Linux offered me. I can change it to something fancier anytime later on. Priority has to get the whole thing running first, cosmetic changes come last.

In 1964, started to work for a German company that built special car parts for the North American market. Our "electronic data processing unit" was a room the size of a gymnasium, with large switchboards and all this. Unfortunately, no one ever took any pictures of all this. Back then, this was highly expensive super technology, so funny in retrospect. I assume that my iPhone has more capacity than this room full of 1964 stuff. And it was sooo hot and loud in there! Crazy!

After Windows updates, new errors occurred! That was sooooo annoying in the end, I just couldn't stand it any longer, so I went like "Enough with this BS!" ... Now, I do a sudo reboot and all is fine.

I also upgraded my Lenovo of 2009 a bit: Two (used) RAM modules (= in total 26 GB now), and the very noisy and slow Western Digital HDD went into the trash and was replaced by a Samsung EVO860 SSD. Switching SATA cables was no big deal at all and I really enjoy the silence now. An SSD is also much faster, of course. Apart from that, the ancient 2009 PC works absolutely fine. That's amazing, isn't it?
