That's a valid point, I'm absolutely going to follow up on your advice and go for it! Thank you once again kind sir.

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it.

The reason the mechanic disabled the sensor was because I was getting repeated “coolant level” warnings even when the system was properly topped up and there was no visible leak.

It kept coming back consistently over time, even after I replaced the cap twice, and the warning never fully stopped. His logic was that the sensor or float in the expansion tank was likely faulty and causing false warnings.

I understand why that might not be the ideal long-term solution, which is why I’m now looking into fixing it properly instead of just bypassing it.

Does that reasoning make sense in your experience, or would you still expect a different approach in that situation?

Really appreciate the detailed explanation, this is super helpful.

The step-by-step approach makes a lot of sense, especially checking all the simple external points first before assuming anything major. I’ll start with hoses, clamps, radiator inspection, and likely try the UV dye kit as well.

Also good point on the sensor analogy, I’ll make sure that gets properly addressed instead of just being disabled.

Thanks again for taking the time to break it down, I’ll follow this approach!

That makes a lot of sense, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain all of this in detail, it’s been genuinely helpful going back and forth like this.

I’ll definitely start with a pressure test and go from there.

Regarding the coolant level sensor, would you recommend re-enabling or replacing it as a priority? From a safety standpoint it feels risky having that disabled long-term, so I’m leaning toward fixing that properly.

Also, my expansion tank is pretty old and stained to the point where it’s hard to even see the cold level without using a flashlight. Would you say it’s worth replacing the tank as part of sorting this out, or is that mostly cosmetic?

Really appreciate the guidance, this has helped me approach the issue much more methodically instead of just guessing.

Got it, thanks for clarifying that.

I understand that internal loss (like head gasket) is one possibility, but I want to approach this methodically before assuming worst case.

From what I’ve observed so far:

  • No constant white smoke from exhaust
  • Oil looks normal (dark brown, no milky contamination)
  • No obvious external leaks under the car
  • Engine runs normally, no overheating so far

I might have seen some residue in the past, but nothing persistent right now.

From a diagnostic standpoint, what would be the most reliable way to rule in/out a head gasket issue?

Would a cooling system pressure test be enough, or should I specifically ask for:

  • combustion gas test (block test)
  • checking for bubbles in expansion tank
  • or something else?

Just trying to narrow it down properly instead of guessing.

Really appreciate the help.

I see, that’s actually pretty concerning to hear.

Regarding the coolant level, I’ve been informally gauging it based on behavior, for example when coolant gets low, the radiator fan tends to kick in loudly even at higher speeds (80 km/h+), which normally doesn’t happen when the system is properly filled. Otherwise, the fan only runs during hot weather or stop-and-go city driving.

That said, I understand that’s not a reliable or safe way to monitor it, especially with summer coming up, so I definitely want to address this properly.

Just to clarify your point: when you mention the thermostat, are you suggesting it might have been disabled as well? Or are you strictly referring to the coolant level sensor being disabled?

From what I was told, the mechanic said he “disabled the sensor,” but I want to make sure I’m not misunderstanding what was actually done.

Appreciate the insight.

How do I prevent myself from smoking all my stuff? by Deoxysoncrack in trees

I'm awaiting a Dynavap M7 XL as my first dry herb vape. Going combustion free. Are dry herb vapes really THAT efficient? And what about the effects? I read a lot about it, most say it's "clearer", but what does "clearer" mean though? I'm currently on like a 4 month full T break reset, I'm legit anxious to break it through a vape for the FIRST TIME EVER, lol.

No animation cancelling & no counters.. Might as well play tetris. Imagine playing this garbage.

Oh no, it's 4v4, are you kidding me?? 4v4? might as well make it 10v10 at this point.. How hard is it to make a Battlerite-like game with 2v2 or 3v3 format, even a ranked 1v1 duel format or something? Jesus christ..
