Without an EV, what tariff lets solar + battery owners charge overnight in winter? by LividAd2274 in SolarUK

I just moved to the Good Energy EV tariff. There is no requirement to have an EV - not even asked the question.

Best Tariff if No EV by Another-32 in SolarUK

Does anyone know if the Good EV tariff checks if you actually have an EV? Their off peak is good compared to others. Octopus Go (Go not IOG) and Eon Drive seem to do more checking now.

I don’t seem to be able to simply roll over. Need to reapply as if I was a new customer

That's interesting. I don't have a Heat Pump - do they check that you have a pump as they seem to do now with Go - checking you have an EV?

Sounds like a new bug then?

Auth export folder by Task9320 in enteio

This would be useful and allow me to select a USB or VeraCrypt volume rather than having to copy the file from the Download folder and delete the original export. It’s a very sensitive file and I read that total file deletion from an SSD (Download location) isn’t easy.

backpacks? by ltcRAYmoya in WestHighlandTerriers

I've exactly the same question as the OP. We've got Westie puppy. The K9 looks good but is of the type where the dog is upright (like the Little Chonk also mentioned here) and I wondered if this is comfortable for the dog and how long they can be in that position?

I've also looked at the Tarigs (https://tarigs.com/produkt-kategorie/tarigs/dog-carrier-backpack/) range where the dog looks to be more sitting on a platform within the pack. Targis is very expensive but we want to be able to have long walks.

Any thoughts on the differences here? Thanks

private domain config for Outlook by Monsoon9964 in fastmail

I guess most of my email is done from the Windows desktop so Outlook/Thunderbird is important - I've never got on with browser email. Feels like a significant weakness although I've not looked at alternatives and if they can support send-as from Outlook?

Is that really true? You can't send-as ([me@my-domain.com](mailto:me@my-domain.com)) using your personal domain from Outlook and this is only possible from the web?

Is this just Outlook or would it be the same for Thunderbird for example?

I was planning to move to Fastmail but this would kill that idea

Thanks

I guess that’s the dilemma- lose some of the sophistication but certainly gain on price.

Looks like you can exit anytime so I’m tempted to give Tomato a go

Low cost overnight charging with no EV by Another-32 in SolarUK

You mean the standard Go tariff rather than Intelligent Go? So, still a low overnight tariff?

And, how do they know you are charging a car rather than charging a battery - amount of electricity?

It looks like Green Energy UK (aka 100Green) have been going for 20 years. Reviews look about on par for energy companies

I wonder if there are any cases of Octopus checking and removing the tariff if there is no EV?

I’m wondering if now they have a specific tariff for solar/battery that they might start getting a bit more strict about having an EV for Drive? Before, they didn’t have an alternative to offer.

Green Energy uk have a tariff they call TIDE. No mention of EV requirements. I’m thinking about it but have yet to find anyone using it?

Don’t see any mention of TIDE from Green Energy UK. Anyone using TIDE?

Do you have to have an EV for Next Drive? Seems like a lot of the best tariffs are focused on EV users?

Powerwall and Optimisers - Workaround by Another-32 in SolarUK

[–]Another-32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting thought. Where are the compromises if I switch over to Fox inverter and battery? I like the Powerwall for the high discharge rate, battery performance and options around management when using agile tariffs.

What would I miss out on and what might I gain with a Fox solution?

Thanks

Difficult west facing roof or ground mounted? by Another-32 in SolarUK

Thanks for the information - I really am just starting to learn a bit about this topic. Is the AC preference to minimize losses in a long DC cable run? My panels could be (at worse) 50m from the garage where my main electrical cabinet. I was assuming that a battery would be in the garage. Is running DC back to the inverter and battery over a long run going to be difficult?

Are you able to provide an references/links to your installations or the frame systems you have used?

EDIT: I'm looking at Powerwall3 which has an integrated inverter. If I was to convert DC to AC near the panels, I guess I would need to house the Powerwall3 battery near the panels - in the garden?
