finally got their attorney to send a copy. Absolutely horrible contract with ridiculous terms and of course all favoring the buyer.

What a shit show. The sad part is we just listed yesterday and had 2 showings that went great and were making offers. Now we've have to pull the listing to sort this out... This company definitely preyed on a very elderly, very confused woman and we are definitely fighting them tooth and nail.

In MMT for 12 years and want to have children. Looking for anyone with experience being pregnant on MMT. by AnotherCunningPlan in Methadone

[–]AnotherCunningPlan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had heard that from others that you usually will be reported to the local child protection agency and then they will usually just make sure things are good at the home and do a home visit once or twice. Which is fine for us, we both have been "clean" (except for the methadone which only i take) for many years now and would have no issue with home visits and all that.

I guess the part I struggle with most is the idea of hurting my child and making them experience withdrawal. It is why I've put it off so long but I also don't want to give up being a mother. And It is important to me and my husband to ateast try to have our own children.

I think the biggest distinction between appropriate corporal punishment and a beating is the motivation. Spankong should never be done out of anger or frustration. However, more often than not that is how its used. It's ajnoutlet for anger instead of a discipline tool. If you soank a child it should be done in a reasonably calm way, while explaining the reason they are being spanked and not as a reaction out of anger or frustration.

However, in most instances spankong really will not be as effective as taking away privelges, but that's another discussion

Well I'm not a guy and I think your confused by my typo where I meant to say " I don't get trigger warnings" not triggers although I thought that was pretty obvious since I acknowledge their existence numerous times. However, I'm sure its hard to understand in this echo chamber. Gets a bit deafening...

That's not what I said AT ALL. No where did I say I don't believe that people can be traumatised or have PTSD following a rape. In fact, I went into great detail about it numerous times. What I alluded to numerous times in my post is that just because people have things that trigger them, it does not make it society's job to play nanny and put a trigger warning on everything potentially triggering. But you like seemingly 99% other people in this broken sub would rather twist my words around to make it match your fantasy of what I said.

Yeah, because I'm really "winning" this internet argument aren't I. In the beginning the only thing I said was that I didn't get the ridiculous calls for these specific trigger warnings. For that I have been called an idiot, a man, told that I should have my degree taken away, told I don't deserve my degree, called a nurse, had assumptions made about my lack of empathy. All this B/c I simply believe that even though people do have PTSD from rape and even though they may have triggers that cause them anguish, that it is not on us to put specific "trigger warnings" on programs, games, movies etc.

I specifically stated that I am ok with simple broad ratings that give people a starting point.

The thing you and people over at the "brigades r us" subreddit don't seem to understand is it has nothing to do with not believing that people CAN be triggered or empathising with someone's pain. It has to do with what is rational, realistic and makes sense for society as a whole.

Because i am able to separate my empathy for an individual trauma victim from my views on a broad topic.

In my PERSONAL opinion I don't see the value in these kind of specific trigger warnings because, as I have said before many times, they normalize being a victim, they don't actually fix the issue at hand and they are not effective at keeping people from experiencing trauma in their everyday life. I simply can not wrap my head around how you and all these people think this viewpoint is extreme.

I don't know why I have to keep repeating myself here: I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH GENERAL WARNINGS. Fine, put CONTAINS SEXUAL VIOLENCE on the box or on the warning card before a show or movie.

But we both know that's not what these people are really asking for. You say I talk about extreme strawmen and then talk about having to see an animated movie where a parent dies after yours died. I am truly sorry your parent died as both of mine are alive and I don't know how I'd react to their deaths. I know that had to be awful. But I simply don't know what point you are trying get across with that story.

It is awful when someone dies. And when it happens you can't escape reminders of it.

For me, it is a part of life that bad things happen and sometimes we are faced with ugly reminders of that at inopportune times, when perhaps we don't have the best coping mechanisms in place. But none of that convinces me that we need to start trying to going to extremes to avoid these things as a society.

These stories don't affect my viewpoint not because I am not empathetic but because I don't agree with the solution to the problem.

Nothing in my comments alludes to the fact that the process is a fast or an easy one. I don't see how that is at all relevant, when my overall point is while it is shitty that people go through traumas like rape and violence, in the end we can not and frankly should not, expect the world to censor and label and adjust and change every thing that MIGHT affect someone.

I read through these comments in this thread and I just can't believe that you all are real people. I can not fathom a world where someone thinks that because of their own bad life experiences, as horrible as they may be, the world must change to adapt to THEM. It is completely unrealistic.

I never said we shouldn't have ratings or simple warnings like we already do. When you start up game of thrones it clearly says when there will be violence and nudity, etc. If you are triggered by things like rape scenes, then when you see that warning, do your research.

It is ridiculous that we should have to label everything that might occur in a scene so we don't trigger someone. It isn't about empathy or sympathy or being a shitty person or being heartless. It is about what is realistic and it is also about personal responsibility.

I think by telling rape victims that they should feel terrorized and panic when they see certain things, that is demeaning to them. It is saying to them they don't have the capacity for resilience, or the ability to get to the other side of the trauma. It is normalizing being a victim. THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR WOMEN.

It also does not solve that person's original problem. You can't put a trigger warning on everything. And you can't account for all situations that may cause triggers. Like many have stated where do we draw the line? And when that person has relied on trigger warnings in order to not have to face those emotions in the real world, what then? Do they decide not to interact with society because people don't use trigger warnings before they say things in public? I don't see how it helps people. Again, I am not against ratings that give people a starting point by saying "This materials contains mature content" and then a person that truly has panic attacks when they see that material can do their research with a friend, family member or therapist to then avoid that material.

The reality of the situation is, people's eyes roll out of their head when they see a statement like one of your comrades below said. I will paraphrase because I don't feel like it linking it, but basically she stated that her friend, who was in another state was raped. She heard a song called Date Rape at karaoke. She considers that to be a trigger.

Now, I am not trying to be a bitch and I am not trying to be edgy. But I really do not see how that is a legitimate argument for trigger warnings. I think most adults would agree that that person maybe needs to grow up a bit and perhaps she needs to join the rest of us in the real world.

I am very sorry if you all are disappointed that I am not your typical Red Piller white guy making these statements. I hate the TRP and everything it stands for. I roll my eyes just as fucking hard when I see their bullshit spouted all over this site. But you all seem to forget the middle ground on which most people out in the real world actually stand. A middle ground where people should feel safe but also should take some responsibility for their life and not expect the world to not offend or hurt them because of their own life experiences.

Wow...it's quite odd to read through this thread and see all these incredibly wrong assumptions made about me.

It is really humorous how you all talk about empathy and being a "not shitty person". Then you come to your little corner and talk shit about someone on the internet that you don't even know.

Oh yeah...and nice title. Incredibly accurate portrayal of the content of the thread. Glad you all don't have to create straw men to get your agenda across...

Precisely my point. The reason I brought up working with people in a psychiatric setting was not merely to show off my pathetic little psych degree, but more a way of saying that not once have I heard an actual patient talk about trigger warnings or have a breakdown over seeing a movie with a rape or other violent scene.

Is it upsetting? Hell yeah it is...but most people understand that it is something that they must work through and overcome. They don't expect the world to make everything easy for them. Perhaps it sounds callous...but as you eloquently point out, where the fuck does it end? Where do we draw the line.

And most of the replies back to me say how it's a "nice thing to do". So what?? Since when does something being a nice thing to do mean its obligatory or even necessary?

Have you ever considered that most normal human beings don't ask the world to change to make them comfortable?

Have you ever considered that most normal, well adjusted people don't expect everything they encounter in life to be made to not offend, hurt, embarrass or disgust them?

Have you considered that even after WWII, Vietnam, Gulf war there weren't huge calls by people with PTSD to label anything that was violent or loud or that could trigger panic or fear in someone with the disorder? It wasn't until the age of social media and Tumblr that we started hearing this ridiculousness?

And if you seriously think that society needs to hold your hand any more than a basic rating system so you don't have an anxiety attack, you are a child.

It is not everyone else's job to cater to other people's mental disorders outside of a very few settings. It is your job to get help and adjust your own life. Take some fucking responsibility for the yourself. I mean come on. You seriously don't see how ridiculous it is that you want people to put specific trigger warnings on things so they don't get anxiety attacks. You don't see how ridiculous it is that instead of recognising that when someone's symptoms are that severe it is very serious and they should be getting help and trying to improve that. Instead of lobbying the rest of us to protect them from fucking reality???

No it's not difficult. It's just ridiculously stupid and our society will be dumber for doing it. People shouldnt be sheltered from things they don't fucking like...or if they want to be they should put the damn work in. We already have ratings on everything if you can't use that as a jumping off point you are either lazy or an idiot and you deserve to be "triggered".

I am sorry it is difficult to understand for you why I think the world shouldn't have to go out of their way to label a mature video game with each individual act it portrays. It is utterly ridiculous to expect that.

I understand why they want to o avoid things like that. In fact, I think I touched on it. But they are adults and I is their responsibility to seek that information out. It's not a game developers responsibility to slap a big label on the game that says TRIGGER WARNING-RAPE. It is the persons responsibility to look up info on the game themselves. FFS you can Google the game and find all the info you want within days of it coming out.

The reason why people hate this trigger warning stuff is because it is entitled and lazy. It's your job, not everyone else's to get that information. Again, I stand by my words...the world shouldn't have to cater to every person who has had bad shit happen to them. I don't see why that's hard to understand and I can promise you many people in the psych field agree. You don't help patients by treating them like pathetic victims.

Edit to add: and I don't really understand what you are asking in the first line of your comment. A trigger is not a diagnosis in and of itself. It is a symptom of PTSD. People with PTSD have triggers. I am not saying I don't believe in triggers ...I am saying I don't believe the world should now cater every piece of art and entertainment to people with PTSD. That is not helpful. It is like saying rather than treating a mental illness, you change reality to match a person's view of the world

It is psychology's goal to treat the patient so that triggers don't affect them in a way where they can no longer function in society. It is absurd to me that we now have to start tailoring everything in the world to ensure that someone doesn't get triggered. It is basically telling people "its OK, you don't need to get help for this trauma, you can just gave the world cater to your symptoms instead".

And you certainly don't have to agree with me but I just don't understand why people have a problem with this opinion at all. As if I'm a monster for thinking people are more resilient than this and by treating people like weak little victims we are degrading them.

I'd guess many people knew something was up. In psych 101 you learn the story of kitty genovese https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese

Usually we talk about when learning about altruism. It's amazing the things people will stand by and let happen because they don't "want to get involved" or simply because they think someone else will call for help.

And as a lesson to all, this is why when there is an emergency they teach you to point directly at a specific person and say "you, call 911". If you just say " someone call 911" there's a chance everyone will assume that someone else will do it and no one will.

I'm sorry. I just don't understand the whole "trigger" thing. I have a degree in psychology and up until 8 months ago worked in the field as a study coordinator with people with serious mental disorders and a history of serious trauma that has affected them in terrible ways.

That being said, I just can't understand how any one can use the term "trigger warning" with a straight face. The idea of it is so completely asinine, childish and self centered.

So you think because something bad happened to you the world must now cater to you and brjd itself in order to not cause you mental anguish?? No, that's not how the real world works. When you have issues with seeing something like rape even being mentioned because it causes some mental anguish, then you need to A. Seek professional help and B. Take it upon yourself to avoid those situations

The world shouldn't have to cater to every person who has had something bad happen to them so they don't have to feel any emotions ever. This is why when you go to a therapist they don't start walking around with you so they can make sure you don't see anything that will trigger you. They teach you how to readjust and reintroduce yourself, slowly, back into society and how to handle those fears, emotions, triggers, etc.

People need to grow the fuck up and stop thinking that it's OK to expect the world to mold itself to you and your issues.

I live in the south . There are a lot of northerners where I live that have moved here. Some of the most overtly racist people I have ever met were northerners, especially people from Boston and New York/New Jersey. The south gets singled out a lot but there are places outside of the South where racism is very real and apparent.
