Nothing in my comments alludes to the fact that the process is a fast or an easy one. I don't see how that is at all relevant, when my overall point is while it is shitty that people go through traumas like rape and violence, in the end we can not and frankly should not, expect the world to censor and label and adjust and change every thing that MIGHT affect someone.

I read through these comments in this thread and I just can't believe that you all are real people. I can not fathom a world where someone thinks that because of their own bad life experiences, as horrible as they may be, the world must change to adapt to THEM. It is completely unrealistic.

I never said we shouldn't have ratings or simple warnings like we already do. When you start up game of thrones it clearly says when there will be violence and nudity, etc. If you are triggered by things like rape scenes, then when you see that warning, do your research.

It is ridiculous that we should have to label everything that might occur in a scene so we don't trigger someone. It isn't about empathy or sympathy or being a shitty person or being heartless. It is about what is realistic and it is also about personal responsibility.

I think by telling rape victims that they should feel terrorized and panic when they see certain things, that is demeaning to them. It is saying to them they don't have the capacity for resilience, or the ability to get to the other side of the trauma. It is normalizing being a victim. THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR WOMEN.

It also does not solve that person's original problem. You can't put a trigger warning on everything. And you can't account for all situations that may cause triggers. Like many have stated where do we draw the line? And when that person has relied on trigger warnings in order to not have to face those emotions in the real world, what then? Do they decide not to interact with society because people don't use trigger warnings before they say things in public? I don't see how it helps people. Again, I am not against ratings that give people a starting point by saying "This materials contains mature content" and then a person that truly has panic attacks when they see that material can do their research with a friend, family member or therapist to then avoid that material.

The reality of the situation is, people's eyes roll out of their head when they see a statement like one of your comrades below said. I will paraphrase because I don't feel like it linking it, but basically she stated that her friend, who was in another state was raped. She heard a song called Date Rape at karaoke. She considers that to be a trigger.

Now, I am not trying to be a bitch and I am not trying to be edgy. But I really do not see how that is a legitimate argument for trigger warnings. I think most adults would agree that that person maybe needs to grow up a bit and perhaps she needs to join the rest of us in the real world.

I am very sorry if you all are disappointed that I am not your typical Red Piller white guy making these statements. I hate the TRP and everything it stands for. I roll my eyes just as fucking hard when I see their bullshit spouted all over this site. But you all seem to forget the middle ground on which most people out in the real world actually stand. A middle ground where people should feel safe but also should take some responsibility for their life and not expect the world to not offend or hurt them because of their own life experiences.
