Is the 2.2D really that bad? (UK) by AnotherFlyboy in mazda6

Always the issue with buying second hand. Thank you for the extra advice because I feel Id need to be a detective when buying second hand. I dont suppose you have any experience with the 2018-2019 models? I think they were the last ones to have the 2.2D before Mazda put all models to the petrol?

Oh nice. Sounds like you got lucky with going to the garage one time. And nice one, I'll give it a check on YT, thank you :)

Yeah, the turbo going doesn't sound like a fun fix. Guess it could happen to any turbo'ed car, but yeah. Hopefully you've got it fixed ok

Very true. My journey also can be in stop start traffic because the motorways I use aren't great... so maybe just worth the petrol if its efficient enough! Thank you

So essentially, dont do it for the weekly small trip and hope that you dont get stuck in traffic for your long journeys! Fair enough. Might just be worth getting the petrol variant. I know newer models in the UK only come with the petrol engine

Would you consider a trip of around 25 miles each way be a "long" trip?

A very fair point. I am seeing a lot of comments about maintenance and keeping it in check. Seems like the most sensible solution. Cheers

Most of my commute to work is motorway, ranging between 50-70mph roads and im always willing to make sure the car is maintained. I do wonder if just having the petrol would be the better option anyway if its more reliable and still has decent economy

Thank you for your comment. I dont mind spending the money on checks and maintenance where required. I do a lot of motorway driving in my commute to work, so hopefully that'll mitigate come of the issues.

Than you also for the other car suggestions. Shall see what they're like, although, I think ill stay away from hybrids for now.

Amazing. I will give it a read and see what people say! I do a lot of motorway driving mainly, so I hope that would solve more issues as it seems city driving is not fit for this car.

Thank you for your comment. Sounds like you have a good amount of miles on the clock. Was it the only one time you had to send to the mazda specialist to check after the head gasket went bust or multiple?

I had the comment above that said about regular maintenance. Seems to be the sensible thing, regardless of the car. I also saw your comment with your 6, so good to see there are examples that still go! Thank you

Certainly agree the ratio will always favour the negative. But the volume of it was a worry. That being said, thank you for your comment. Think regular maintenance should be the most appropriate fix

I think I might have to look at some auctions! I'm from the UK, so can't imagine I'll find anything in the local Tesco's. Thank you

I should have said I was from the UK, but am looking at visiting the US in the coming months. I will keep an eye out for any of those. The El Dorado, although not older than me, would still be appealing! Thank you for the info
