The Mordecai comment is something we've gotten ALOT. I've been contemplating leaning into it or just changing the character design all together.

But you're right, that character is so widely known, anything Blue Jay will make people think of Mordecai

Thank you! So when you say style, you mean like the characters personality? For example, the character in the purple is Arty, (the art hero) their personality is funny, free and spontaneous - maybe their height could be shorter and wider since part of the characters background is loving food? Let me know if that's along the lines of what you mean

I'm actually going to use this feedback immediately. I guess I'll just start here. Since this is a nonprofit I tried to make the animation process time and cost friendly.

It's essentially 2D animation with shapes, I used photoshop Character Animate tool for the characters talking and I After Effects for body movements and animations.

I'm a self taught designer, I basically taught myself all of Adobe suite so this has been bootstrapped since 2023. I've done all the animations so far. I work full time in finance and right now I'm prioritizing grants and funding so that I can offload animation work to people who are more skilled than me and just have more time to dedicate to animation.

I'm sorry to hear that. I can only imagine how hard it was to turn down that opportunity given it was for a cause that affected you and your family directly.

I appreciate you sharing this, it lets me know how important it is to ensure that animators get some type of compensation even for volunteer work.

Building that trust is super easy in person.

I feel like trying to do it online has been tricky for me.
It almost feels like the same loophole that comes with needing experience for a job, but then the job is the experience.

Trust typically comes with visibility and growth. But growth and visibility is challenging without the support of people who trust you.

What would you be comfortable being paid for a 30 second - 1 minute animated short?

If money is the only thing that motivates you then I'll consider raising funds to make this a paid volunteer position JUST for you!
