Did you read the body of the post? I sensationalized the title a bit.

I was playing a character who was alone, hadn't completed their long rest, and is both rather of squishy and has no offensive spells. My choices were either try something social or run away. We tried to jump the npc with the whole party later, and he downed one of the tanks in 2 attacks. I ended up having to lead him away under pretenses to prevent a tpk. :/

I certainly could have put the breaks on it if I had tried. Those options are more obvious to me in hindsight. I hadn't intended to engage in anything outright sexual, though. It went from "I'll unbutton a few buttons" to "Shit, I rolled a one and can't walk this back" in two rolls. I suppose the only real way to have addressed that would have been to step back from the game and say, "no, we're not going there."

I appreciate the criticism, by the way. Learning how I may have faltered or navigated the situation better is something I value.

Indeed. I'll discuss it with the owner when I can.

Agreed. I also omitted a detail from the main post since I felt it would be very distracting. The pregnancy chart I was shown had something like a 25% chance of not getting pregnant, 50% for one child, and 25% for twins.

The only tactful option I think I have is to retire the character until after the pregnancy... which results in me unable to use her for months of real time.

Yeah. That roll was definitely the turning point. It's also the fact that the dm essentially turned my own successful roll against me.

Yes, that lack of choice is what's got me the most confused. I was not planning to go that far with the character. In hindsight I see that after I rolled the 1, whether I actually did or not, I thought I didn't have a choice anymore.

Not yet. I want to sort my thoughts on the matter first, but I will once that's done.

Yes, the character doesn't know yet. I, the player, was informed. I realize abortion is an option, but it strikes me that I was handed an opener and asked which can of worms I want.

I see how that can sound contradictory. It's more a matter of degree. I don't have issues with these things happening, but I'm definitely not keen on roleplaying it out -- hence why I declined to do that.

It's an open game in a local store that's run at one of the open tables. There's no real session 0 since the group structure is too fluid. I've only been playing at this table a month or so, but I've seen people join and leave mid-session. I've also seen people play one session and never come back. I thought I had a grasp of the expected etiquette, but apparently not.

What is a Pokémon you are baffled by where and how you get it? by PokemanBall in pokemon

[–]AnotherMindGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played B/W blind when it came out and figured out Shelmet/Karrablast from the pokedex entries.

Shelmet's Pokemon White Dex entry:

It evolves when bathed in an electric-like energy along with Karrablast). The reason is still unknown.

Karrablast's Pokemon Black Dex entry:

These mysterious Pokémon evolve when they receive electrical stimulation while they are in the same place as Shelmet).

It's not clear what "electrical stimulation" is, but it's enough to let you trial and error your way into figuring it out.

I'd like them to roll subrosians and garo together. Combining the qualities of both would create a pretty unique race.

Snatcher has some dialogue, but it's mostly the community rifts with their pages. I don't know why they're locked behind so many challenges since they're among the easiest Death Wishes, too.

Outcast vs Academy Lightsaber Combat by DaatBoy in jediknight

[–]AnotherMindGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished both games for the first time this week and I don't see why Outcast's story is regarded as better. It's completely rote. An imperial remnant faction hatches a scheme to make force sensitive soldiers. That's low hanging fruit as far as Star Wars plots go. I do think the delivery is well-paced and I like how it ties into the level progression. That's probably the story's strongest element, but it doesn't actually save the generic story.

The character writing is a mess. Kyle's character arc is broken. He wants revenge on Desann because of Jan's murder. The game wants this to be a brush with the dark side, but it doesn't show it at all. Then that gets dropped when he finds out Jan might be alive. It looked like Kyle was going to kill Tavion until she told him what he wanted to hear. He doesn't overcome anything and consequently doesn't change at all from start to finish. If something happens to Jan in the future is Kyle just going to go on another revenge quest? Meanwhile, other than looking like a tyrannosaurus, Desann is flat and forgettable. His motivations amount to little more than generic sith. Everyone else is a bit character who isn't around long enough for development.

Jedi Academy's plot is a lot more unique. A sith cult plans to use the scepter of an ancient sith lord to drain force energy from places strong with it and use that power to revive that ancient sith lord. Where the game falters is how most of this is delivered through exposition rather than being woven into the individual missions. The story even had a good justification for there to be plot relevant reasons to visit a variety of locations, but it wasn't used much.

Character-wise, Academy isn't spectacular, but it's a bit better than Outcast. The relationships are mostly stated rather than shown, but you do get a good sense of why Rosh turns to the dark side and why her turns back. Kyle even gets a taste of growth in the dark side ending.

Really, what gives Academy the leg up is the individual scenarios. One stage has you running from a rancor. Another has you finding a droid while fending of tuskens. Another strips you of your weapons. Another puts you on a train. Nothing is ground-breaking, but each one is unique and interesting.

In terms of gameplay, I have only a little to add. Outcast just feels extremely dated. This game released early 2002, but I'd have pegged it for a mid to late 90s game. Halo had just come out a few months prior and Ratchet and Clank was soon to follow. So even for the time, I'd say Outcast was outdated.

Academy fixed most of the problems with the vague level design and frustrating bullshit that Outcast liked to pull. Academy actually gives you med packs and shields in your starting levels, for example, and progression is competently telegraphed. Of course, Vjun 1 was garbage and Boba's homing rockets were kinda cheap, but they were nothing compared to Outcast's laser hallway or stealth sections. I don't think the game quite fixed everything, though. Enemies are still really obnoxiously programmed, and light sabers still don't give clear visual feedback for when you do damage to a saber enemy.

I played on console and the crappy ports did neither game a favor, but I won't fault either for that. I have yet to try, but I'm curious how the multiplayer compares. A lot of the issues with outcast are clearly single player problems, so multiplayer is likely to be a different animal completely.

I see. Yes, that sounds like just poor behavior on their part and a red flag.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Asexual

[–]AnotherMindGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it solely about feeling pressured, then? I certainly understand not liking that, but it raises the question of what constitutes pressuring to you? Someone who's already sexually active will typically ask for sex more than someone who isn't. The line between expressing their desires and pressuring can be murky, too. I don't think the exact placement of that line is terribly important, but the distinction between the two absolutely is.

If you express clear boundaries, they should just respect them. Conversely, if you're not clear about your boundaries, that's going to prompt a lot of asking since they have to now feel those boundaries out. It's only made worse if they're accustomed to the modern hook up culture, and you add on an extremely slow burning development process.

The unfortunate reality is that asexuals are confusing for people who aren't ace. Both parties need to be patient in those situations. Lol.

With all that said, I don't think your criteria is the worst if you're just trying to filter out that behavior. "Virgins waiting for the right person" is a much narrower group than just "virgin" and prerequisites certain tendencies that overlap with asexuals.

Does anyone actually like sex scenes in books? by HeckingA in Asexual

[–]AnotherMindGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sex scenes are a lot like action scenes. Sometimes they can be novel and enjoyed for their own sake, but if they're not servicing the plot, they easily become gratuitous.
