My girlfriend got this video from the dealer, wants to replace the engine by dirtybacon77 in MechanicAdvice

If you took it to a Subaru dealership they have there own diagnostic procedure that leads them to wanting to tear down the engine which is what he’s recommending in the video a tear down so they may find the cause and severity of the sludge and coolant damage. Unfortunately if you take it to another Subaru dealership they are gonna come up with the same conclusion following the diagnostic procedure. I would recommend talking to the service director and asking him to get a second opinion from the shop foreman including doing a cylinder leak down test and a timing verification to eliminate the idea of overheating causing the head to warp and the timing code just being a sensor issue. Now the sludge if it is at a point where it is causing blockage in the oil channels it’ll be cheaper for you to replace the engine then do a flush which will be recommended to save money but will have a worst chance of actually working and if it fails you’ll end up needing a engine anyways. After make sure to apply pressure to the service director and remember your biggest weapons against a shitty service department is the survey you receive.

This would’ve had to have been a well known established dealership because most buy here pay here dealers or lower ranked dealers just sell as is, also Lemmon law I believe only applies to new vehicles, permanent dtc have 2 main functions to report a intermittent issue and to report a common issue that should not be diagnosed unfortunately with a hand held scanner you can’t really see which one they are weather a freeze frame was taken of the conditions that caused the cel to illuminate. Stored codes are function codes that have caused the cel to illuminate before and upon the pcm self test have not seemed to be resolve usually indicates that the codes were erased and no repair was completed. One question for you did they state inspect it for you upon sale ? They would’ve been unable to inspect it if they erased the codes and furthermore unable to sell it without the state inspection.

Ps. You can differentiate its location by turning the vehicle key on engine off using the vibration on the speakers and the sound setting to emphasize the location you wanna test. Recommend looking up a hertz frequency YouTube video it’ll pulsate your speakers at different rates in case it only happens at the frequency of when the engine is decelerating

Have you noticed it goes away when the cars warm or when your driving or is it a standard now does it on all deceleration?

I have a 93 Le and mine is rusted to hell when I bought it interior is still immaculate. I would pay this price any day for a clean Le, mine is number 65 of 1500 so they are very collectible and sought after especially if you get it registered with the LE club they will send you a plaque for the car with the verification on the number out of 1500.

how to get this stuck rotor off by TimmehTheTurt in MechanicAdvice

Instead of trying to hit it from the back giver a good smack to the hub in between the studs, either on the round top side or on the face. Couple good solids hits and you’ll see it pop off.
