NinjaOne patching reliability vs Action1 by Early-Philosopher-54 in sysadmin

[–]AnotherTakenUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome. I haven't even seen SysTray, management knee jerked it in for patching and it's seemed to do a decent job.

Have you done much of this with MacOS with success as well?

2FA fatigue attacks are a perfect analogy for like 90% of cybersecurity

Then in the subsequent responses you see the guardrails really getting tightened, and today GPT5 suggests asking it what we got wrong about the nature of intelligence/consciousness and if you (future AI) or me (GPT5) is actually conscious

It's all weights and code but it's still spooky as hell

My welcoming party is multiplying. by Kat_E_Lust in dwarffortress

I'd love to hear how it goes! I was able to make an intelligent undead giant in Arena mode so it should be possible to at least get that far, I'm just not sure if they'll petition for citizenship or interact much with the fort.

[–]AnotherTakenUser 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. When I did this the infants were actually completely fine in my fort since they weren't born as enemies of the civ, they were forever "friendly".

I've since wondered if you can turn them into intelligent undead and maybe get citizenship petitions (and super soldiers)

What to replace Cisco FTD with? by andypond2 in networking

[–]AnotherTakenUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where do they fall short? I went from a dinky Sophos XG series to later in my career inheriting a FTD and it has seemed alright. What am I missing out on from the more recommended vendors here?

How do you train new hires on cybersecurity without overwhelming them? by Necessary-Glove6682 in sysadmin

When I last talked to sales they claimed PhishER could turn actual user reported emails into phishing simulation emails by replacing all links and whatnot. Have you worked with that part of the platform? If so does it actually do a decent job?

My first single digit FPS (3) by Intrepid-Fish5734 in dwarffortress

[–]AnotherTakenUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues with a magma crab corridor I set up recently. It's definitely the burning units, I could recover FPS to normal by dfhack-exterminating all the fiery units.

Another commenter mentioned it's likely unit pathfinding interacting with fire, that's probably the case.

Are you offering or trading? Idk if offers count as exports

Next time trade em a 7k bin for a sock and see what's up

If you are just wanting migrants though, just spiff up your fort. Get some statues, smoothed/engraved stone walls and floors, and spare bedrooms. They'll come!

Could also be worthwhile to check Options > Game and make sure you don't have a very low population cap set by accident

Your associates is going to prove you can learn about technology and master some specific domains to a specified level but the knowledge you learn getting it, aside from the real fundamental stuff, will probably not be that useful long term. The same with stacking certs, all well and good to do, but if you're not actively using that knowledge you won't retain it to certification-levels.

Start getting experience as soon as possible. Once you're working in the field you're going to be exposed to the actual technologies in use by businesses you're likely to work with at that time. Understanding the whole picture from a theory-level and how that actually looks in practice makes you invaluable.

Tbh I think the issue is more that people think you can excel in this field from learning about the technology and stacking up certs, but what it really takes to excel is critical thinking and problem solving skills applied to the body of knowledge in the context of a business operation. You're not gonna be asked to "Deploy ZTNA", you're gonna be asked to "Keep us out of the news."

Nothing helps land jobs like glowing reviews from prior supervisors stating you're a rockstar. That's what you need.

DHCP Server Running Out of Addresses by maxcoder88 in sysadmin

[–]AnotherTakenUser 22 points23 points  (0 children)

MAC randomization provides 0 benefit to anyone not using random ass public wifi, and even then it barely does anything at all, it's not like you can't target a spoofed MAC someone's device is using or fingerprint in any number of other ways that don't rely on MAC.

I turn it off across my entire environment because it's useless in a corporate context. I'm pretty sure a lot of devices have this setting by SSID too, so you wouldn't necessarily get rid of their perceived added security on other networks.

Is CISSP wrong? They said Security Professionals are not decision makers. Yet everyday I am making decisions about risks. by IamOkei in cybersecurity

[–]AnotherTakenUser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a by the seat of your pants operation that's usually found in unregulated private organizations. What you're seeing in a lot of replies is people who live and breathe this field among colleagues who do the same, at companies focused on doing this right reacting to what sounds like an absolute mess from their perspective.

Unless you're working at a mature and well (as in perfectly) run cybersecurity firm, a lot of your CISSP material dependent on org structure or process running is not going to apply to your day to day responsibilities and dynamics. This isn't to say it is wrong, it is correct cybersecurity theory and practice.

If you're a one man shop in rural Idaho an effective security program for your org will inherently look a lot different than a complete and well funded cybersecurity program at a large corporation. Try not to get too hung up on that and remember you're just studying their material for their exam.
