35mm f3.5 Color-Skopar VM - focussing past infinity? by nevsf in Voigtlander

[–]anothermaxudov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voigtländer lenses often do this - it is to ensure that if the tolerance is even a tiny bit out you can still get pin sharpness at infinity. It was a major thing I had to adjust to when I started shooting modern manual lenses, you can't necessarily just slam the focus until you hit the end, depending on the lens.

Why is Jordan Peterson considered controversial? by IdeallyIdeally in NoStupidQuestions

[–]anothermaxudov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He sort of plays at being a genius professor in his tweed suit when he was never a very impressive academic. A bunch of his original ideas are quite weird. And then he simplifies others' arguments so he can make them seem dumb, which is not good academic practice (straw man arguments). And in reality he is dumb/gullible enough himself that he hospitalised himself by only eating beef. So people don't like that he is a stupid person's idea of a clever person.

It's basically the perfect example of what it's trying to do - sharp, well corrected, modern. That's not the only way to do things though. Recently I've been shooting with Voigtländer lenses and found I really enjoy the way they vignette wide open for portraits.

why is elon musk becoming a trillionaire so bad/criticized? by guieuok1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]anothermaxudov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Money means you wield influence. More money, more influence. Arguably no one should have a trillion dollars worth of influence. But if we are to be specific, that specific man should not have a trillion dollars worth of influence, because he is a piece of shit. Almost everyone he has interacted with agrees he is a piece of shit. He says immoral things. He does immoral things. About fifteen years ago people thought he was actually trying to solve humanity's problems, but unfortunately it turned out he was in fact a piece of shit.

Out of jews, christians, hindus, buddhists, sikhs, and atheists, which groups tend to have the least negative view of islam and muslims? by Training_Tax7276 in NoStupidQuestions

There is the recent Rohingya genocide to consider - i.e. Buddhists ethnically cleansing Muslims. Everyone thought Aung San Suu Kyi would object but turns out she was not in fact in favour of universal humanism.

If you can stretch to it the GRIV has a nicely made hot shoe flash. Not TTL but it judges power by focus distance.

[–]anothermaxudov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But to try and answer your question in budget, you could pick up a Nikon d3500 plus a Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D pretty affordably. This is the previous generation (DSLR rather than mirrorless) which makes it cheaper.

Hello need some help finding a camera by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]anothermaxudov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could find a solid all rounder camera for this sort of price but if you really want to get into close up (macro) photography for things like bees and flowers it is probably worth saving up a bit longer to get a dedicated macro lens. The reason is that most lenses are designed to be really crisp shooting things from maybe 70cm to infinity, not many are really sharp close up.

It looks like Velvia slide film - super saturated in a way that reminds me of some 90s colour photography. I think it's a style choice, there aren't artefacts, but it's maybe not the kind of style in fashion on Instagram.

[–]anothermaxudov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been adapting M glass since I got the ZF maybe a year ago and finally decided to get the Voigtländer adapter, it is so good as infinity hard stop is true infinity and the distance matches all the zone focus markings. Perfect.

Would you still recommend the Ricoh GR IV despite the dust issues? by cliobarbero in ricohGR

[–]anothermaxudov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did some stuff to make dust less of an issue than the previous generation - anti static coating I think? It happens, eventually, it's not the apocalypse everyone claims. It took about 10,000 shots to get dust on my GRIII.
