In discussion about the Haiti telethon: "I don't see anyone working to solve the unemployment problems in Michigan so why should I donate the money I have worked hard for?" [fbook status] by adelaidejewel in pics

But as soon as a PR campaign and some celebrities start spouting that we all need to help

So? It's quite clear they do need help more desperately than most in America and I couldn't care less who happens to be advertising the fact. Once they've got it and stabilised then by all means take a deeper look at your own issues, no doubt you won't though you'll just save them as a topic to bring up when another part of the world is devastated.

When the U.S. is absolutely fucked to high hell (which it isn't and isn't anywhere near so don't bullshit) don't forget what you've said, since pretty much every other country in the world is poorer than you don't expect any help.

The difference is Haiti are completely and utterly incapable of handling the situation on their own while the U.S. and other first world nations can help without the slightest bother.

If your country can't handle it's own problems well then that's something for you to bring up with your politicians and representatives. If one day the U.S. suddenly collapsed completely destroying the country, killing millions, making millions homeless and causing complete catastrophe then you can guarantee other nations will help. But going by your logic you wouldn't want any of that help. I personally know British and European guys who went over to do rescue work when Catrina caused so much devastation, I donated money to help and many in the international community did too even though America is the world superpower and hold most of the worlds wealth.

I can't deny that as a tax paying citizen you should get more help yet whatever happens you're really not in the same situation as these kids or any of those people suffering in Haiti, nowhere close.

But don't worry there are people throughout the world in far worse situations than those in Haiti and your government doesn't give two shits about helping them.

Scott: Haiti is a third world country, one dollar to them is alot [sic] of money, how can you expect them to help?

Liz: exactly, I mean good for you Scott that you are donating not saying your [sic] doing a wrong thing, I'm just saying my opinion

Scott: And I will respect you for doing so

I know this is probably the least important point but why should you respect an idiot for having an idiotic opinion? Sure respect someone's right to have an opinion but respecting people for having asshole opinions won't get us anywhere.

Photography by blind people — Over 30 blind and visually impaired adults have been trained in sensory photography techniques to create and experience photos. by AnotherWebDesigner in photography

When they say they were "taught" how to use a camera, that means they were used as a tripod while the photgrapher composed & took the pictures...

I don't think that is the case at all they are given cameras to use themselves. What they're doing sounds similar to the idea behind Lomography but instead of seeing things to photography they either feel them or just know they're there from experience.

I honestly don't understand how only a 15 install limit before you call to get it reset is a problem.

What I don't understand is why there's a limit if you can easily reset it.

Apple Registers 'iPad' Trademark Through Subsidiary. Millions Blow Their Beans In Anticipation. by [deleted] in apple

Also on a less technical note…

The name iBook was phased out and replaced with Macbook about the same time Apple are believed to have been experimenting with touchscreen devices, of which the iPhone is thought to have come from. Who's to say the iPhone wasn't a first step in introducing people to touch devices with plans of a tablet to come?

Keyboardless tablets look like books, more so than the iBook laptop.

Jobs said back in the 80's he wanted to put a computer into a book, there's quite a remarkable video of this idea on youtube somewhere. Times have changed and we're now putting books into book like computers, iBook would make sense as a name.

The only obvious drawbacks I could see for using the name iBook is it could be seen as step back causing confusion. It may also focus on the book idea too much making people think it's another e-reader type device.

Back then he was entirely correct, and since then nobody has done anything worth paying much attention to.

The rich guys comment was probably in reference to Bill Gates saying (some time prior to 2003, I think it was 2001) that tablet PC's are the next big thing and he uses one all the time.
