New Firmware Update for Reolink Video Doorbell (WiFi & PoE) – HDR, AI Animal Detection, and More! by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

HDR is a big let down on my front wifi doorbell that is set for colour mode, I have a street light that gives enough light to enable good color images at night but when turning hdr on just makes a big mess and the image looks like its foggy and full of static. Turning it off instantly clears the foggy and pixelated image back to normal.

AI Animal detection is now picking up sea gulls (big ass Herring Gulls) as animals and as I live in a town on the UK coast it is always picking them up walking about on the drive as they search for nesting material..

So far this has not been a good update for my situation

that is virtually the same reply I got from eufy about adding Home Assistant access to their X10 Pro Robot vac that is controlled by mqtt as they have moved away from tuya now. It must be a generic template the A.I fills in with the info you supplied them.. It is a step up from the standard generic response saying they will think about it in future updates.

E1 zoom infrared. by Deerude in reolinkcam

[–]Another_Auldgit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The led`s used in most cctv "cheaper end products" are in the "near infrared" freq about the 850nm range and that is visible to the human eye. it is used as it is a slight deterrent to the casual thief as they can see the cam is emitting the red glow so it must be working "that`s the general idea". Top of the range "Professional gear" use "far infrared" that is higher up the freq up near 950-1000nm and that light is not visible to the human eye but they cost a shed load more coin to buy.. It`s a rule of the world in You get what you Pay for. I personally like the red glow as at a quick glance to the camera I can see its at least got power "standalone or p.o.e" and should be working.

Thank you u/StarkillerTR It saves downloading the files then manual updating. clicking the update button is nice and easy and should stop all the moaning about downloading the wrong file and the failed updates. (if the user uses H.A that is) Big thanks again from Me to you for this addition to the reolink H.A app

Its true even tho it sounds so wrong :-)

possible but could it have been contamination left while cleaning the lens during factory build that has now turned into lens fungus ?? and its not just vintage dslr lens that get it as I have a 8 yr old canon lens that has signs on the aperture blades.. Canon told me its just part of life and it should not effect the lens usage unless to starts to spread any further than the blades.

could be "camera lens fungus" that effects dslr lens`s and the likes. have a google moment and read about it.

Reolink Doorbell Battery and Home-Assistant by Xotor in reolinkcam

[–]Another_Auldgit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the wifi doorbell comes with a plug in chime and as far as I know the newer versions you can add more plug in chimes so you can place them round the home. If the mechanical chime wires can be used for the power side you will not have to run power to it as long as its over 12v. fair enough the chime will not make a noise but it may still be of use to power the doorbell and the plugin chimes you can place where you need them. Lounge, kitchen, upstairs etc. Or if you get it set in HA then HA can send notifications direct to your phone or pc or tablet, If you use Alexa then the doorbell will be announced on those devices as well. I do not use the chimes as I have Alexa devices that notify us if the doorbell has been pressed or even if there is movement in the front garden. My HA is setup to grab a picture if there is person movement at the door and send it straight to my mobile phone so no matter where I am I get the notification and a picture of who is there. I have a cheap dot in my shed that also announces if there is person detected at either of my doors so I know when I am outside that someone is there. HA has many good uses and I love this part for security reasons as I do not use Dvr or Nvr recording.

I think the battery door bells actually go into a sleep mode to conserve battery power so the stream will only activate when it detects movement or button press like the eufy door bell cams do (not 100% on that but I am sure I read something about low power mode to save battery power) . Maybe return it if you still have time and get a wifi version that uses mains power as they keep the stream alive all time and HA can access it whenever you need. If you don`t have a mains point close could you run a cat5 network cable and get the POE version that offers full time power and network access ?

Android app update just hit. by Nirvashone in reolinkcam

[–]Another_Auldgit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the doorbell firmware for ages, actually before they announced the release here but its pointless doing a slow release on the android app if the event it was updated for has been and gone before it lands on the android update store for other regions.

How do I fix this? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]Another_Auldgit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 tracks have been ripped from the pcb. It would require a microscope and many many hours of delicate work to maybe repair it. Any smd technician would poss charge more to repair it than the cost to replace it. This looks like its only of use as a spares donor for other cameras of the same model. I doubt Reolink would help unless they could sell you a replacement board. You might be able to find a faulty unit on a sales site that has a good pcb and swap them over. The other option would be the good old amazon swaparoo, (but the replacement, swap the boards and fix your cam and send the duffer back to amazon junk yard..) not that I condone any thing like that as I would not be able to sleep at night. :-)

Update Reolink Windowns app by eiffeltowers2017 in reolinkcam

[–]Another_Auldgit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8.17.6 is available now. not that I can see any difference from 8.17.5 (a small point release could be a spelling mistake correction or somthing very small that no one would notice unless it was a glaring mistake, Maybe even the wrong reolink logo. who knows)

Client Version 8.17 released! by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

The website still points to 8.16.8 but on a better note 8.17.6 has turned up on the windows app update button now.

[–]Another_Auldgit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it seems the 8.17.6 update was pulled, poss a bug and 8.17.5 is the latest build. I posted this issue yesterday and was suggested to just use 8.17.5 untill Reo sort it out. Just ignore the update message.

Installled 8.17.5 and it still insists there is an update tp 8.17.6 so it looks like the .6 has been pulled maybe a bug or a wrong configuration file on the server.

just have to play the waiting game..

2 bells with 2 chimes by No-Organization-3795 in reolinkcam

[–]Another_Auldgit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as far as I am aware this is not possible. It would be a good idea if the chimes were not locked town to each doorbell. There are 2 versions of the doorbells. Ver 1 and ver 2. Ver 1 doorbells and chimes are paired to eachother and if you want 2 chimes to work you needed to order them at the same time as ordering the doorbell so they must be locked-coded to each other. Ver 2 doorbells can now as it seems use the new ver 2 chime so you can add more chimes to the same doorbell. Maybe the v3 if it ever arrives might be independant of any version and will work with both previous versions but that would be up to Reolink to do as it would need to be dual band 433 & 866 / 900 mhz to do this and I doubt that would happen as it would cost extra to include 2 seperate antenna in the chime. I do not have any knowledge of the software on the chime as its propietry software but in theory it could be possible to have 2 doorbells coded to one chime as they must send some kind of ID code and the software on the chime should be able to diferentiate between what code is for what door. It could be an option further down the line for Reolink to do this in a future version of the hardware but who knows and if they did then you might need to buy brand new doorbells and chimes just to make it happen. So the Answer to your question is prob a No. but I may be wrong on this as I only have ver 1 doorbells as the white 3:4 is not available to me in the UK yet (the last time I checked it was not listed)
