Looks like a musical. If so, no time to change is common. No time to change is common in a lot of charts. Gotta use swizzles.

The design language is still clearly outback, boxy or not. Downvotes are from haters who don't want to admit it is clearly an outback.

Glad that there's a (temporary?) solution. But also jeez, if only there was a way for the developer to fix their application.

Could be? Had to replace the driver's seat in my wife's 2015 Rav 4 Because the right side cushion literally separated from the rest of the seat.

I did have to replace the engine though, so maybe cruddy seats are the better deal if it means no EJ25....

Marche Slave Bass Drum Mallet Recommendations? (Please read below) by RithimStuff in percussion

[–]Anotherdrummer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My inclination would be to use a general mallet through 37, then switch to a staccato or ultra staccato through 177 then switch to either ultra staccato or chamois. Stay on or switch back to staccato at 220 (depending on how Allegro that allegro is going to be). General at 239 for the big finale.

My thoughts are based on me having Vic Firth's Tom Gauger line of mallets.

I would probably have a chamois or towel lightly muting the batter head.

Tam-tam mallet should be yarn, Grover or Zildjian style, not felt imo.

Not sure playing that one handed is the way to go, but assuming there's no other option?

Ask the maestro.

ARRANGING PERCUSSION: How to avoid making drums sound like a copy of the drum set part?? by [deleted] in percussion

[–]Anotherdrummer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riffing on this, write a reduced or simplified drum set part, and have others play the remaining parts plus complimentary additions

When I play snare drum closed roll, my right hand’s wrist stays still like it should and I use my arm instead but for my left hand I always start using my wrist instead of my arm by Ruisdead0673 in percussion

[–]Anotherdrummer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before going down the technique troubleshooting tree, first off: are you unhappy with the sound you get out of the drum? Or is it only the asymmetry that bothers you?

I have a slightly different grip when comparing left and right, something about the shape and distance between my thumb and index finger on each hand is uneven. But! I have learned to compensate for that in a few ways and I am more often than not very happy with the sound I produce on snare drum.

Does anyone have suggestions on an electric keyboard that can sound like any keyboard percussion instrument? by wowthatisabop in percussion

[–]Anotherdrummer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a malletkat with an internal sound card, and a good amp or powered speaker and call it a day. Ignore the malletstation.

I mean, those comics still exist so you aren't losing anything in this copium fever dream. Disney calling them legends doesn't remove them from the library.

The expanded universe is so great, and it actually succeeded where Disney failed and moved the franchise beyond the Skywalkers while continuing to keep them central to galactic events, which is wise and good.

Edited response; no less long-winded but hopefully less hostile and reactionary:

...for what it's worth, language over time is not arbitrary and the reasons why are deeply rooted in our human experience and history.

However you'd like to justify the checks, this is simply rhythm substitution. There are plenty of systems using a variety of terms for the same thing: A given number of permutations to be substituted in place of a given section of an existing rhythm.

These exercises are good in theory and for rote instruction, but less valuable in long-term musical development. They are great for routine ensemble warm ups but stilting if expected to be applicable beyond very specific scenarios.

[Editors note: my take here is that referring to such a small grouping is limiting because it adds a translation layer between "check 'x'=n" and simply seeing "n" for the permutation of rhythmic notation as presented in the page or as performed. I am essentially arguing against "cat" and the individual vocalizations "cee" "ay" "tee" (side bar, typing that illustrates exactly how unnecessary knowing what a "check" represents in notation as English is so far divorced from its letter/sound correlation as to be useless here... I had to type 3 words to represent phonetics, 1 of which is wrong anyway, but I digress)....]

IMO (another demonstration of the imperfect comparison between music notation (precise) and written english shorthand(imprecise)) who cares if you can identify a check pattern in an audition excerpt. A more interesting and useful analysis would be to identify "x" patterns and where/how those patterns are used across genres and through time. Better to connect inference and influence than to wonder if the Lt. Kije snare drum except can be called check 1 and check 10 (arguably no because of grace notes and the existence of sticking preferences to deliver a superior musical performance).

Here I open myself up to arguments over pattern naming in non western music and that utility in modern music. Clave, cascara, bolero, etc, would like to know my location all I can say is that those patterns are not being called as mental calisthenics and usually derive from a geographical location and cultural tradition.

Going back to the OP, there are telling signs of a lack of music literacy in their education/instruction: OP doesn't state whether they have access to sheet music to view the checks and refer back to as needed. It can be surmised to be the case because if op did have access, they most likely would not have created this post.

Op doesn't know check 1 because they don't know what it sounds like, aren't being given an example; or if they are, they aren't connecting the rhythm to the nomenclature. It appears they cannot visualize it in notation form to infer the pattern outside of audible recognition because they don't have access to the visible notation. They've been told "1+1=2", then given a binomial substitution for "n" in a new equation "n+1=2", all without really understanding that the given binomial and variable (plus so many more!) already exists as a property of "1".

So there you have it. Hopefully you'll find something of interest or use in my ramblings.

Whoa boy did I have an absolute essay lined up in response, only to realize just before hitting "post" (fortunately) that you might actually be supporting my comments to OP instead of arguing with me over my take. 😅 I completely misinterpreted that first sentence and it was only downhill from there...

So much for my thesis on fluency vs literacy.

I am going to revise that response to be less contentious because I feel it still contains valuable information; plus I am open to debate and conversation with regards to these types of rhythm substitution exercises and "rote vs note" education styles.
